SUPER-RARITY! 10 INCH E.BERLINER’S GRAMOPHONE 78, VIOLIN SOLO LONDON 1901!

HERE’S A MAJOR RARITY! IT’S A 1901 BRITISH 10 INCH BERLINER DISC, WHICH WERE PRODUCED FOR LESS THAN SIX MONTHS FROM APRIL 1901 UNTIL THE INTRODUCTION OF PAPER LABELS BY THE GRAMOPHONE & TYPEWRITER CO. IN NOVEMBER 1901. PRODUCTION WAS FRAUGHT WITH TECHNICAL PROBLEMS AND THERE ARE HUGE GAPS IN THE MATRIX LISTINGS WHICH SHOW THE EXTENT OF THE ISSUES FACED BY RECORDER FRED GAISBERG.

THIS ONE IS BERLINER G.C.-7942, ‘CHOPIN’S NOCTURNE’ PLAYED BY DUTCH-BORN VIOLINIST AND ORCHESTRA LEADER JACQUES JACOBS, ODDLY LABELLED AS ‘G. JACOBS’.

CONDITION: V, WITH AN ODD HEAT BUMP AT THE START WHICH LOOKS AS THOUGH IT’S BEEN THERE SINCE NEW AND WHICH PLAYS THROUGH WITH A LITTKLE EXTRA TRACKING WEIGHT.
