His background includes singing schools, choir directing, sing- ing conventions and the organization and leadership of several different gospel quartets. The original HARVEY FAMILY SING- ERS consisted of twelve brothers and sisters who began singing together in 1920. The present group, organized in 1940, consists of JOHN HARVEY,' lead singer and father of the group; two daughters, PEGGY HARVEY STREET and THERESA HARVEY LUCHINI, alto and soprano; a son, DEXTER HARVEY, tenor; and a son-in-law, JIM LUCHINI, who sings bass. Instrumental accompaniment is provided by DEXTER, guitar, and THERESA, piano. In carrying on this family tradition of gospel singing, the group has striven to retain the basic harmony and simplicity of yesteryear. Too, it has remained their purpose to glorify God and bring joy to others through singing. The setting for the picture on the front cover of the album is The HARVEY’S old home place at Watauga, Tennessee, where Uncle John and wife, Irene, mother of the children, lived and where DEXTER, THERESA and PEGGY were born. Their aunt, Mrs. John Andrews, still lives there. The HARVEYS still spend many happy hours at this place. JIM LUCHINI is a native of Bristol, Virginia, and son of Mr.'& Mrs. Martin Luchini. He has been with the group for the past eighteen years. & Uncle John, Peggy, Theresa, Dexter and Jim Write; The HARVEY FAMILY, 2501 Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, Tennessee 37601 Accompaniment: GuZtaA. : Kenneth Harvey & Dexter Harvey REO Recorded at TRI-STATE RECORDING COMPANY, Kingsport, Tennessee 37664 TSRC-718131
