KATI KOVACS - S/T (PEPITA, 1974)

Everyone forgets that Hungary produced a lot of really cool music during the 60's and 70's - this record being absolutely NO exception.  Collectors, DJ's and beatheads usually think of Zalatnay when they think of funky Hungarian records, but Kati Kovacs has a really great library of stuff - this is one of her more experimental outtings with Locomotiv GT.  Here, they play a little more interesting sounding stuff considering the times, infusing a little 'punk funk' into their traditionally funky rock sound, several years before that sound took off in the UK and NYC.  THIS ALBUM WON THE UK PRICE MUSIC WEEK FOR BEST FOREIGN ALBUM IN 1974.

No doubt, it's one of the best album ever recorded in Hungary.
Exceptional rock songs, fantastic voice by Kati Kovacs (in the stlye of Janis Joplin, but Kati Kovacs has a more "cameleon" voice - suitable for both rock/and romantic tunes).
The album contains mostly rock, funky-rock tunes, some psychedelic moments, nice open drum breaks as well.
Songs like ROCK AND ROLLER, SZOLJ RAM HA HANGOSAN ENEKELEK are the treasures of the Hungarian Rock-history. The sad Rock-ballad VARLAK has the most beautiful guitar-solo ever recorded in Hungary. The performer Tamas Barta played it shortly after his mother's death - so it says all...
A famous bossa-nova song AZ ESO ES EN concludes the album - simply wonderful!

That, combined with the absolutely GORGEOUS fold-out gatefold sleeve make this quite a steal!

TRACKLISTING: ROCK AND ROLLER / MARADJ MEG / HA HANGOSAN ENEKELEK / SORSOM / VARLAK / TANITSD MEG A GYEREKEKET / SZABAD VAGYOK / TELUTO / SZENDVICSFIU / AZ ESO ES EN
