The first full-length from these gothic doom-deathers and it's a belter. Couldn't give less of a shit about what they do now to be honest with you, but back in the early 90s Katatonia knew the score. Influenced by the Peaceville doom-death bands as well as the more melodic end of the black metal scene and with an ear for the dark gothic tones of bands like Fields Of Nephilim, Katatonia produced probably the most listenable doom/death while still retaining the rough edge of the genre's early proponents. Of course, they'd go on to poof it up on subsequent albums and all would be lost, but that's to take nothing away from this masterful LP!
