RONNIE DAWSON
As JOHNNY & THE JILLS

In November of 1958 Ronnie Dawson made his debut with the single “Action Packed” on Back Beat” then followed it up with the killer “Rockin’ Bones” on Sportatorium Records in September of 1959.

This was his sixth 45 to hit the streets and it was released on Marvin Montgomery’s own Do-Boy Records label. You see, Marvin Montgomery was a long-time member of the Light Crust Doughboys and when he started his own label he gave a nod to that heritage with the label name Do-Boy.

It is believed that this obscure single in the Ronnie Dawson discography was issued in December of 1960, and was his sixth recording, following the release on Sportatorium, Back Beat, the two on Swan and the Dallas indie on Maverick.

The titles here are “Pauline” and “Poor Little Johnny Smith”  This is quite a rare record, seldom seen. The majority of the records pressed were never even released. In fact, the first time I ever saw it was when Ronnie Dawson pulled a copy out of his record box back in the 1990s.

This is an original UNPLAYED original pressing of this rare single that comes direct from the collection of Ronnie’s friend, manager, and sometimes bandmate Marvin Montgomery.
