Even if the Brazilian progressive background had been inexpressive, many freaking amusing bands have arisen, made their milestones and are still just praised by a half-dozen collectors - what's not quite different with bands from other countries. However today I've brought the first studio album by Quaterna Réquiem, a group from here from Brazil which played a symphonic progressive strongly tied to classic music and Italian prog with some elements from folk.

The group was founded way back in 1989 by Elisa Wiermann and Cláudio Dantas brothers, both classically-trained musicians and English prog rock fans. After having suffered many changes on their line-up and played some concerts in Rio de Janeiro, they finally managed to release their first studio work in 1990, which is this album in question with a la Hawkwind sleeve.

It's hard to believe on the existence of an active progressive band in the early 90s, however this one is highly recommended for any symphonic prog and RPI fan.
