CLASSICS 4
SUZIE-Q

Gaylo Records was out of Big Spring, Texas, which is due west of Ft. Worth out the the flat & dusty lands. The label had some nice rockabilly tracks on it in the late ‘50s and by the time of this single owner Ben Hall was probably looking for something new that the kids were into. He found the Classics 4 and cut this record in 1964.

I’ve seen this record listed as a garage band, as an unknown Texas rockabilly classic and with the flip described as dowop. Whatever it is, it’s a great little record, and really obscure too.

This one is on Gaylo Records and pairs a great version of the Dale Hawkins tune “Suzie Q” with Bobby Osborn and his own tune “My Heart’s Been Broken.” It was later picked up nationally by Arlen Records and released under the name Bobby Osburn and is quite the desireable teener. This IS the same group that recorded as the Classics 5 with “Wine, Wine, Wine.”
