  TOMMY McGEE
 "Positive-Negative"

(MTMG 60421) Original 1976 1st Michigan Private pressing LP (Stereo)
 (see photos for track listing)

 Visual grading of disc: VG+
(Has a number of spindle marks - more on one side than the other, but I can assure you that this LP was never
played more than three, maybe four times)

I can barely remember when Tommy dropped this LP off to our radio station in '76. I believe I was on-air
in the radio booth and didn't get a chance to talk to him. As Music Director I had a conversation with
my Program Director about adding this to our playlist. We were a full fledged 24/7 AOR free form
radio station by '76 but played little Soul. We had an AM Sister station to do that.

We put a catalog number sticker (seen at top left on front) before we decided to just give it a few
feature slots on air. The LP never made it to the on-air studio library. It's been home with me ever since.

Randy Marsh played drums on this and he's a lifetime friend of mine, having played drums in my last
garage band Phlegethon - a band that came out of the ashes of The Soul Benders. I was lead singer
and organist for both bands.

I called him last week to get some more insight on this LP, since by 1976 I was deep into my radio career
and he was out freely looking for session work. We had lost constant contact back then.

He informed me this was recorded at Albo Studios (about 2 miles from where I'm sitting, typing this here in Grand Rapids, Mich.)
and that Tommy had come to one of our last Phlegethon live gigs with the specific intention of
watching him to see if he was the guy he wanted on drums for his first solo project.
Randy also said that Palmer James and Curtis Rodgers were present for the entire session of this LP.
That was surprising to me since they aren't credited anywhere.
I was casual friends with Palmer and Curtis back in the late 1960's since I was often at the recording
studio (screwing around - laying down tracks) where they recorded the infamous Al Green 'Back Up Train' album.
I attended one session during the making of that LP but don't remember much of it these days.
I thought it would be just 'another local Soul record'.
Duh.

Curtis & Palmer were cool cats, very friendly to a kid (age: 20) like me with shoulder length hair. At that time I was also
managing a One-Stop (record wholesaler for juke boxes) and they often came in there with new product and
we would talk music for quite a while each time. Never ran into them again after those early days.

I've been told that Tommy is alive and well living somewhere on the West Coast. Nice!

I was going to attempt to remove the catalog sticker at top left of the front cover but decided against
it, since it would leave a discoloration there, and frankly, decided it would look better with the sticker as is.
You can remove it if that's your wish.
Both cover sides have some ringwear and discoloration around edges from decades of storage, but no splits
or tears or writing. Use the zoom feature on photos if you're a purist.

I HAVE DECIDED TO INCLUDE FULL AUDIO CLIPS OF BOTH SIDES IN THEIR ENTIRETY.
That way, you can decide if this LP is for you. Because I'm allowing you to hear the whole thing,
there will be NO RETURNS on this item.
You have 10 days to listen to just 28 minutes of music.

I think it plays nicely. Sure, there are occasional ticks and pops, but most of it plays really well.
The beginning of each side (exposed from the opening of the inner) seems to be the noisiest,
but LISTEN TO ALL OF IT so we can both have a purely happy transaction! :)

Continuing with the liquidation of my music collection passing them on to people who can more appreciate them.
These are items from my collection of nearly 40,000 promo 45s, LP's & CD's from the 60's thru the 00's that I was
fortunate to acquire from doing 37 years of on-air Rock Radio.

All of my records are guaranteed original pressings unless otherwise noted.

These records were sorted, stored, moved a few times, and then stored again for decades.
Most were stored carefully, some were not. All of my gradings are visual and more often than not, quite generous.
Just check my feedback. You can bid and buy with confidence.

We've been selling and shipping music worldwide since 1982.

PLEASE READ MY MY GRADING SCALE
(Near Mint and Mint Minus are not the same grade)

Near Mint:
Our highest grade for an opened vinyl. Record will be close to perfect in the playing area. May have minor scuffs on edges from decades of storage, or a small hairline mark, scratch or some paper scuffs on play area but no audible distractions.
It's near mint, not mint (which would be 'sealed').
Mint minus: A scuff or two or a very light mark or two on either or both sides that may possibly be heard.
VG++: One step down. A few faint marks or paper scuffs that may be audible. May show some signs of use.
VG+: Scuffs & some minor scratches in the playing area. Some will more than likely be heard.
VG: Many scuffs or scratches that will be heard but record should still play through.

Record grading is subjective. We offer a 100% money back guarantee on everything we sell.
If there's any problem, we'll arrange a return and full refund for you.
If the problem is 'our' fault, we will pay the full return shipping cost.
