Friday Night In San Francisco is a 1981 live album by Al Di
Meola, John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia. It was described by jazz
author and critic Walter Kolosky as "a musical event that could be
compared to the Benny Goodman Band's performance at Carnegie Hall in
1938...[it] may be considered the most influential of all live acoustic
guitar albums. All the tracks except "Guardian Angel" were recorded live
at The Warfield Theatre on December 5, 1980 in San Francisco.
This debut recording on Columbia Records became a landmark recording
that surpassed the two million mark in sales. The three virtuosos in the
Trio toured together from 1980 through 1983.
Paco de Lucia was a Spanish flamenco guitarist, composer and
producer. A leading proponent of the New Flamenco style, he helped
legitimize flamenco among the establishment in Spain, and was one of the
first flamenco guitarists to have successfully crossed over into other
genres of music such as classical and jazz. De Lucia was noted for his
fast and fluent finger style runs. His collaborations with guitarists
John McLaughlin and Al Di Meola saw him gain wider popularity outside
his native Spain.
Al Di Meola is an acclaimed jazz fusion and Latin jazz guitarist,
composer, and record producer. With a musical career that has spanned
more than three decades, he has become respected as one of the most
influential guitarists in jazz to date. Albums such as Friday Night In San Francisco
have earned him both artistic and commercial success with a solid fan
base throughout the world. A prolific composer and prodigious six-string
talent, Di Meola has amassed over 20 albums as a leader while
collaborating on a dozen or so others.
John McLaughlin is an English guitarist, bandleader and composer. His
music includes many genres of jazz and rock, which he coupled with an
interest in Indian classical music to become one of the pioneering
figures in fusion. In 2010, guitarist Jeff Beck called him "the best
guitarist alive." In 2003, McLaughlin was ranked 49th in Rolling Stone's
"100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time." After contributing to several
key British groups of the early sixties and making his first solo
record, he moved to the U.S. where he played with Tony Williams' group
Lifetime and then with Miles Davis on his landmark electric-jazz fusion
albums: In A Silent Way, Bitches Brew, A Tribute To Jack Johnson and On The Corner.

GRADING. Grading is
visual only unless otherwise stated. I go by Goldmine standards and try to be
conservative. I will play grade on certain items only - it is just impossible
for me to play grade everything I put on EBAY.
RECORD GRADING:
MINT
(M) ---- It should be SEALED and appear to be brand new. Mint means STILL SEALED, NEVER PLAYED. NEAR MINT (NM or NM-) ---- OPENED or UNSEALED. Otherwise mint but has one or two tiny
inconsequential flaws that do not affect play. Covers should be close to
perfect with minor signs of wear or age just becoming evident.
VERY GOOD PLUS (VG++ or strong VG++ or VG+++) The record or cover
that all but the most particular collector would say looks outstanding.
Cover may have insignificant manufacturers defect such as notch hole or
cut corner.
VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+ or strong VG+) The record has been handled and
played infrequently or very carefully. On a disc, there may be light
paper scuffs from sliding in and out of a sleeve or the vinyl or some of
the original luster may be lost. A slight scratch that did not affect
play would be acceptable for most collectors. Cover has most of its
original gloss and has been well taken care of. Minor seam splits may
be acceptable.
VERY GOOD (VG or strong VG) ---- Record displays visible signs of
handling and playing, such as loss of vinyl luster, light surface
scratches, groove wear and spindle trails. Some audible surface noise,
non-feelable marks that might or will affect the sound as mild
occasional surface noise or periodic pops/clicks. Usually a cover is VG
when one or more of these problems are evident: ring wear, seam splits,
bent corners, loss of gloss, stains, etc.
VERY GOOD- (VG- or G+)
Record will show signs same as VG with heavier wear including noticeable
groove wear and feelable marks that will likely pop or click. Popping
or clicking will be most evident through quieter passages. Record
should play all the way through, but may skip.
GOOD (G) ---- Well
played with little luster and significant surface noise. Despite
defects, record should still play all the way through without skipping,
but may skip. Several cover flaws will be apparent, but should not
obliterate the artwork. Filler copy until a better one can be found.
POOR
(P) ---- Any record or cover that does not qualify for the above "Good"
grading should be seen as Poor. Only the rarest of records should ever
be graded as Poor while the others should go to the trash heap.
DISCLAIMER. Due to
the number of frivolous
returns which were
unwarranted, and due to the
nature of sound recorded products that can be easily
copied, there will no
longer be a free return policy. I will charge a
$10.00 return fee for
all returns - this amount will be deducted
from the Paypal refund of the returned
item.
If item is truly
defective the entire purchase
amount
will be refunded as
long as the item is in the same condition as it was sent.
