(..SPEED LIMIT....) by ( SPEED LIMIT )...... ....( a fan says:Understated French fusion LP that hits all the requisite pleasure centers, once you are already deeply acquainted with the scene. Side one is an invigorating mix of early Magma and Zao with Janik Top on bass, and in gloriously compressed (i.e. "French") sound. Side Two is more esoteric and atmospheric for most of its length, but finally settles into a hip Parisian groove by the end. Nice varied French jazz fusion with all sorts of unexpected touches all over it.. The sound quality is very french, though, ie : thin, compressed, and a bit muted or muffled, which makes it a little bit difficult to listen to and/or concentrate on.. (I much prefer the booming clarity of the Ex Vitae album, for instance). With a more lively and three-dimensional production, the album would undoubtedly be more immediate, but well.. Oh, another very french phenomenon here : just as Lard Free's I'm Around About Midnight and Heldon 3 : It's Only Rock n' Roll share a similar track (entitled "Méchamment Rock" in its Heldon version - I forgot its title in its Lard Free incarnation), this Speed Limit album shares a track with Magma's Udu Wudu ("Soleil d'Ork", which appears here under a different title..). Of course, Magma's bass guitar powerhouse/behemoth Janik Top is on board, which probably explains that.. Percussionist Shiroc (of Birgé Gorgé Shiroc) also joined the party, as well as Magma/Zao saxist Yochk'o Seffer.. almost a french jazz fusion all stars or something like that. A1 Time's Tune a.
