Grading / Condition

We use the Goldmine Grading Guide for grading the condition of all records, see the chart below. All records are visually graded under strong lights and graded conservatively. Most of the Near Mint and Very Good plus stock was listened to only afew times in Japan when bought new 30 - 60 years ago, then boxed up by owner and never listened to again. Until you....

If records come in paper sleeves we keep but use new vinyl sleeves and original paper sleeves are placed together with any inserts, posters and other accessories. We do not clean and remove any dust to keep in as original condition as possible, records need a dust or clean before being played as will have 30 - 60 year old Japanese gold dust.

Grading Condition Chart Near Mint (NM)Near Mint may have never been played or played at the most only once or twice, and the vinyl will play perfectly, with no imperfections during playback. The record will show no obvious signs of wear and the cover or jacket will have no creases, folds, seam splits, cut-out holes, or other noticeable similar defects. The same is true of any other inserts, such as posters, lyric sleeves, etc.

The record may have some finger marks from removing from vinyl inner and inspecting in Japan. Please note that all records have been stored away for years and will have some dust and need a clean before playing. Very Good Plus (VG+) Very Good Plus will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Defects should be more of a cosmetic nature, not affecting the actual playback as a whole. Record surfaces may show some signs of wear from removal of inners and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don’t affect one’s listening experiences.

Slight warps that do not affect the sound are “OK”. The label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. Spindle marks may be present. Picture sleeves and inner sleeves will have some slight wear, slightly turned-up corners, or a slight seam split. An LP cover may have slight signs of wear, and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation, or cut corner. In general, if not for a couple of minor things wrong with it, this would be Near Mint. Very Good (VG)Very Good will share more pronounced defects found in a VG+ record. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song’s intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise.

Groove wear will start to
