Released in 14th July 1989.
These sessions were recorded at the BBC Studios in Maida Vale, London, for broadcast on
Britain's national radio station, Radio One.
The BBC do not impose editorial control on the material recorded. So while some artists use the
opportunity to promote a version of their latest single, bauhaus opted to explore
"off-the -record" ideas; experimenting with tracks that would later be re-recorded
for record release, recording cover versions of songs they'd played
during sound checks before live shows, or just trying something to see what happened.
Each session was recorded and mixed in one day, and in most cases the group performed live
in the studio with minimal overdubs, giving the tracks an additional edge. Five of these recordings
were used on official record releases : Bauhaus felt the session version of
'Double Dare' was stronger than a later studio take and included it on their debut album
"Departure" and "Party Of The First Par"' were used as 'b' sides on 12" singles
and "Ziggy Stardust" and "Third Uncle" were coupled on a single and became their biggest hit.
Two other songs have never officially appeared on record before now
"Poison Pen" was re-recorded but was not used and "Night Time" is a cover of The Strangeloves'
USA garage classic.
Though these tracks were never recorded with a record release in mind
(and Bauhaus would probably feel happier if a couple
of the performances were left in the vault), the complete BBC sessions are presented here legally for the first time
digitally remastered from the original tapes. They are a fascinating insight into the Bauhaus legacy.
THE RECORDS PLAY AS NEAR MINT
This pressing plays with superb audio across both sides and has been so well preserved down the years.
It can only have been played sparingly which is how it has retained its original sonic quality.
It is easily one of the finest examples I have heard and seen. The vinyl is visually stunning,
it just could not look any better, and the previous owner clearly handled them with extreme care.
The same applies to the cover which is also in fantastic condition with no obvious wear. It truly is a fantastic example
No creases, marks or writing on it and only a trace of a corner bump
The opening has no feathering, top and bottom seams as new and the spine is straight and true
with clear and undamaged print.
The audio on Side 1 is Near Mint
The audio on Side 2 is Near Mint
The audio on Side 3 is Near Mint
The audio on Side 4 is Near Mint
The sleeve is firm and solid with just a hint of a slight thumb crease.
The spine is straight and true with fully legible and undamaged lettering and catalogue number
The labels are Near Mint (see photos for close ups).
Visual grading
The vinyl is in beautiful condition and has an immaculate jet-black glossy
sheen with no marks or scratches.
At first glance you would think they were brand new such is the stunning visual quality.
The run out grooves are
unmarked and the labels are also super clean with no marking and NO spindle marks
showing how little usage
this LP has had.
