North Texas State University Lab Band Lot of 7 LPs 1970 – 1976 Plus Bonus
Up for sale is a lot of private press jazz LPs by the North Texas State University Lab Band with Leon Breeden as director. The recordings are high fidelity, perhaps recorded better than expected for a university private press. The recording cover a wide range of jazz styles. There are many jazz musicians listed, and certainly some of them went on to have careers in music, including Steve Turre.
Unless otherwise noted, all vinyl is visually graded EXC with some superficial whispy hairline marks from that are typical with private press LPs (some of these might be from the inner paper sleeves). All covers have a small sticker on the back upper left corner with a filing number – these LPs came from a college music professor, and this is how he filed all of his LPs. Unless otherwise noted, the covers are graded conservatively as VG+. Even if the cover is otherwise near mint, we graded down for the presence of the sticker.
1) 1970 Annual Spring Concert; cover is significantly bent
on the upper right corner
2) 12 x 3 (1971, double LP); small stain on front cover; 1.5-inch seam split on
back gatefold cover, light ring wear
3) Lab ’72; some staining on back and rear cover; small “property of” stamp on
inner gatefold; 5-inch seam split on top of front gatefold; some very light
superficial marks on side 3
4) Lab ’73
5) Lab ’74; vinyl is VG+ with some light scuffs
6) Lab ’75; vinyl is near mint; cover is EXC
7) Lab ’76; vinyl is near mint; cover is EXC
Included as a free bonus, is the Lab ’71 LP (not pictured). The cover is in EXC condition, but the vinyl has some significant marks, and the first track skips once. So, it is being included here as a free bonus without any guarantees.
