The album features 23 individual guest vocalists and musicians, including Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, Pete Yorn, Anna Waronker, Adam Lazzara of Taking Back Sunday, Aaron Gillespie of Underoath and The Almost, Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, and Hayley Williams of Paramore. Additional instrumentation was handled by DJ Swamp and Casey Prestwood, whom contributed on turntable and pedal steel guitar, respectively.

This is the band's third full-length studio album, originally released in 2007 through J Records.

Max Bemis -- the medicated frontman responsible for every melody, riff, and snare hit on Say Anything's debut -- has broadened his approach for the band's follow-up release. In Defense of the Genre is a double-disc set spanning every nook and cranny of Bemis' record collection, with a full lineup accompanying his romps through screamo, show tunes, and the usual pop-punk territory. Also along for the ride are a number of collaborators, and anyone who questions Say Anything's ability to stay afloat in light of their frontman's bipolar disorder need only notice the supportive cameos by Gerard Way, Pete Yorn, and Chris Carrabba. But even if Bemis has the support of the music industry, he still refuses to play by its rules, structuring In Defense of the Genre like a schizophrenic mixtape instead of something traditionally cohesive. The songs function like a series of miniature suites, making left-hand turns without warning and mixing genres together with a deft hand. Electronica choruses rub shoulders with punky verses in "No Soul." Broadway-styled orchestrations in "That Is Why" give way to the aggressive "Surgically Removing the Tracking Device." Elsewhere, Bemis finds room to toss everything from doo wop to reggae into the pot, and although the resulting concoction isn't quite as appetizing as ...Is a Real Boy, it's certainly good enough to warrant several helpings. Bemis may be seeking to defend the emo genre, but his album instead illustrates the difference between run-of-the-mill emo -- which, indeed, comprises most of the genre's output -- and the imaginative, skillful tunes that flourish here. How long before my order ships?
Orders usually ship within 2-7 business days. Please understand that it is impossible to keep all 100,000+ items (and multiple copies of those items) in stock at all times. Sometimes an order gets caught while re-supplying. Once an order is in the hands of the USPS, it can take another 2-14 days.


Why hasn't my item been shipped yet?
Please be patient. It is somewhere in our delivery path. Sometimes our emails get screened out. The bottom line is that 90% of all orders arrive within 10 days and 99% arrive within 3 weeks.


Will I be able to track my shipment?
Yes, tracking is included with all shipments.

Check your shipping confirmation e-mail to make sure the items weren't sent in multiple shipments. If they weren't, contact us and we we'll take care of it.


What if one of my items is not available (out of print/stock)?
Record companies take LP's cd's, and dvd's in and out of circulation all the time, without notice, to generate future demand. We have no control over this and it affects all media sellers.
