OVERVIEW: The Levellers record label, On The Fiddle Recordings, is issuing a limited edition red vinyl version of “A Weapon Called The Word” for RSD 2016.
Having already gained a considerable reputation as a formidable live band, the release of “A Weapon Called The Word” in 1990 signified the beginning of a career that has, so far, spanned over 25 years.
“A Weapon Called The Word” has the distinction of achieving BPI Gold status without ever charting and is the only Levellers album to feature founding member Alan Miles who was subsequently replaced by current vocalist and multi–instrumentalist Simon Friend.
Often cited by fans as the band’s best album, tracks such as “Carry Me”, Together All The Way”and “England My Home” are still played regularly in the live set; with several of the tracks featuring on the Levellers’ self released Greatest Hits package of 2014.
As usual, the project has had hands on involvement from the band with bassist Jeremy Cunningham overseeing the art direction and fiddle player, Jon Sevink, overseeing the re-mastering of the songs.
Vinyl Records and their Sleeves are very easily damaged in the post, with our 10 years experience we take great care when packaging vinyl records, by opening and removing the inner sleeve (without touching the record) to try and avoid any problems. ***Although, if you would rather we did not carefully open one side of the PVC sleeve (if supplied), please call us once the order has been placed, we cannot accept any responsibility for spine damage to the sleeve in transit if the record is not removed***
