ELDORADO
1974's Eldorado: A Symphony by the Electric Light Orchestra, is the group's breakthrough fourth studio album and first conceptual release. Their most ambitious album to date, Jeff Lynne decided to hire a 30 piece orchestra and choir to fill out the band's sound, and the investment paid off in spades. Lynne finally found the rich symphonic presence he had been searching for since ELO's inception and produced the group's biggest single up to that point with "Can't Get It Out of My Head" along the way.
A NEW WORLD RECORD
If 1975's Face The Music saw Jeff Lynne honing Electric Light Orchestra's classic sound, its 1976 follow-up A New World Record defined it absolutely. Nine solid gold and exquisitely performed hook-laden songs of melodic brilliance surpassed everything ELO had released so far.
Rolling Stone magazine announced "A New World Record should be a staple in a million homes" - and they were absolutely correct. The album exceeded all expectations in America and became ELO's first double-platinum seller, reaching No. 4. On the other side of the Atlantic - and with a lot of pride and satisfaction - ELO finally achieved success in their home country with a Top 10 debut earning the group a gold disc. In less than a year, the album had sold five million copies worldwide.
Includes Lynne's first Top 5 single "Livin' Thing," plus smash hits "Rockaria!" (possibly the world's first operatic single), "Do Ya" (originally written by Lynne for The Move) and "Telephone Line," ELO's first gold single in the UK and one of the most played songs of all time on American radio.
OUT OF THE BLUE
One of the finest LP's ever recorded, 1977 masterpiece Out of the Blue took Jeff Lynne's irresistible melodies, perfect production and intelligent arrangements and delivered 17 songs across 4-sides of an era-defining album. With 4 million advance orders, the album consolidated ELO's success worldwide and was a Top 5 platinum smash in both the UK and US, staying on the charts for over 2 years.
Featuring the four massive hit singles, "Turn To Stone," "Sweet Talkin' Woman," "Wild West Hero" and the classic "Mr Blue Sky," Out of the Blue remains the ultimate Electric Light Orchestra album and a firm favorite with fans, critics and music lovers to this day.
