The group's original line-up consisted of  (lead vocals, occasional songwriter since 2005),  (keyboards, guitar, vocals, chief songwriter after 1981),  (keyboards), and  (keyboards, chief songwriter from 1980 until 1981). Depeche Mode released their debut record in 1981, , bringing the band onto the British new wave scene. Clarke left the band after the release of the album, leaving the band as a trio to record , released the following year. Gore took over lead songwriting duties and, later in 1982, (keyboards, drums, occasional songwriter) officially joined the band to fill Clarke's spot, establishing a line up that would continue for the next thirteen years.

The band's last albums of the 1980s,  and , established them as a dominant force on the mainstream electronic music scene. A highlight of this era was the band's concert at the Pasadena Rose Bowl, where they drew a crowd in excess of 60,000 people. In the new decade, Depeche Mode released , a mainstream success. The subsequent album, , and the supporting exacerbated tensions within the band to the point where Alan Wilder quit in 1995, leading to intense media and fan speculation that the band would split. Now a trio once again, the band released  in 1997, recorded at the height of Gahan's near-fatal drug abuse, Gore's alcoholism and seizures and Fletcher's depression. The release of confirmed Depeche Mode's willingness to remain together, the subsequent, and very successful,  being their first tour in support of an original album in eight years since the , although the band had  to support  compilation album.

Depeche Mode have had fifty songs in the  and thirteen top 10 albums in the UK charts. Depeche Mode have sold over 100 million records worldwide.  magazine calls Depeche Mode "the most popular electronic band the world has ever known" and included the band in the list of the "50 Bands That Changed the World!". Depeche Mode also rank number 98 on 's "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".

Packaging :

I take great care during packaging and do each one personally. I use hand cut cardboard, which I get from a trucking company. (It's so thick that you will save it and use it again.) Each piece is 1/4 inch thick and together they are very stronge. I always remove the record from the picture sleeve and add clear plastic and record sleeve. All packages are marked in red and white "Handle With Care Fragile" sticker on one side and "Do Not Bend" on other side.

Postage :

You have to pay for the postage.   This record will weigh 6 ounces when ready to ship. US winners can figure out your own postage costs for US First Class with tracking. I will send it through USPS and you will get an email with the tracking number. Overseas winners will get it sent by First Class Mail International. (Buyers from Brazil, France will assume all risks for shipping to your country.) I will send your record as soon as you pay. (same day if before 2 PM and next day if after 2 PM, Monday thru Saturday) I will combine postage if you win more than one record. Please wait for my invoice for all of your winnings in one package

G "Good" Disc has lots of wear, and serious visual abrasions. It should play through without skipping (unless otherwise noted). Condition is generally rough, but is good enough to serve as a "filler" copy until something better comes along. Only the rarest of records will be listed in this condition.

All other defects, such as cut-out holes (CO), stickers and/or writing on the label (SOL / WOL) and warping (wrp) are noted as listed here.
