THESE AUCTIONS WILL HOPEFULLY GIVE PEOPLE THE OPPURTUNITY TO OBTAIN VERY SCARCE CLASSICAL RECORDS AT AFFORDABLE COMPETATIVE PRICES. THERE ARE SOME EXCELLENT EXAMPLES AND I AM SURE SOME WILL EXCEDE YOUR OWN EXPECTATIONS. WITH THIS IN MIND, PLEASE BE AWARE OF THEIR EX LIBRARY STATUS WHEN BIDDING AS THESE RECORDS WILL NOT REALLY BE FOR THE COLLECTOR LOOKING FOR IMMACULATE EXAMPLES.

This auction is for the following record LP
BEETHOVEN VIOLIN CONCERTO IN D MAJOR OP 61
DAVID OISTRAKH
French National Radio Orchestra conducted by Andre Cluytens

 1st pressing, blue/silver label

Record
An unusual one here, the record has been reasonably well preserved in the sense that it does not seem to have been played or handled a great deal on first inspection, this is evident from there being very few noticeable hairlines with only a few slight surface marks and minor signs of wear.

Side One has very few issues visually, some minor surface marks and minor inner sleeve removal marks etc but looks to be EX+ visually.

Side two however has sleeve rash across the entire surface, light to moderate, this is often seen when records have not been removed from the sleeves for prolongued period of time, this is often mainly a cosmetic issue and usually has very little impact on the audio play back. There are some slight faint hairlines and miild surface marks that arent part of the sleeve rash but again nothing too heavy or distracting There is a label removal graze on side 1. With this in mind the visual grading should ne around VG+ visually to account for the sleeve rash.

I have listened to the record in its entirity numerous times so as to give a fair and accurate audio grading. And what I have noticed is that there is some light to moderate underlying static, surface noise/crackle that seems to be present throughout both sides.

The surface noise is higher in the mix during quieter passages such as unaccompanied violin solo parts and less noticeable at points to un-noticeable during busier louder orchestral passages. Even with the surface noise being present it did sound rather good and was quite pleasant and didnt ruin the enjoyment of the music. It wasnt overly distract, but still played quite well throughout and is a perfectly reasonable example.

There are 14 loud ticks at the start of side one, with some other occasional pops and ticks noticed intermitently throughout in varying degrees. On the whole this was a pleasant listen from beginning to end and as such I would grade the audio VG++ on average. I suspect that a professional clean will enhance the audio on this record, i dont expect the above stated nosie to be elimated but it will certainly help.

This is one of the scarcer Oistrakh recording but as noted above it has its flaws, so please bare this in mind when bidding. This is not really a copy for the collecting purist who requires Excellent to Near Mint copies. This falls below this as stated in the condition report. This copy however is ideal for someone who wants this iconic recording, no doubt at a much lower price than immaculate copies.

Due to this record being stored and largely unused for many years I would recommend a professional clean to enhance this example further.

Sleeve EX (EXCELLENT)

PLEASE VIEW THE EXTENSIVE PHOTO GALLERY FOR A DETAILED VISUAL OF THE CONDITION.

A nicely presented sleeve throughout, some minor surface marks just noticed, minor laminate handling creasing, but clean and well presented for the most part. There is some very light edge and corner wear and minor scuffs. The back is quite clean with some minor toning and minor marks to the white areas. There is a rubber stamped mark in red with a gift inscription in the top left corner. The flipbacks are reasonably well preserved with some light edge wear and minor marks. A solid clean example of this sleeve.

PLEASE NOTE IF YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH YOUR ITEM PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME. I HAVE AN IMPECCABLE TRACK RECORD FOR POSITIVE FEEDBACK WITH LP'S, SO PLEASE BUY WITH CONFIDENCE.
