I don't really hear that in the grooves but perhaps that helps explain why it's so hard to pigeonhole this album. It's all rather unique and tho' their influences are pretty discernable they don't wear any of them on their sleeves instead concocting something totally their own, again unique. They don't play it safe here but instead they rather willfully stay left of center.
While it's not an album that's in moderate rotation with me it is one that I spin more often than many of the so called classics and I always find myself being drawn in. Good album.
As an aside, it's my understanding that a couple of these guys were also in the band Bear, who released an album titled "Greetings, Children of Paradise". While it's a bit more mainstream and has a wider breadth of styles it's also a really good underated LP and worth the time and effort.
