Leading Science Fantasy author Michael Moorcock enjoyed a long
collaboration with Space Rock kings Hawkwind, eventually forming his own
outfit Deep Fix to record this conceptual album in 1975. Featuring
Members of Hawkwind and guitarist Snowy White, the New Worlds Fair was a
stunning work inspired by Moorcock's writings and was wonderfully
conceived and delivered.
Step right up for the Unholy Grail of Moorcockian UK '70s London underground.
This is a timeless album, and a tribute to Moorcock's musical as well as literary genius. The haunting Circus of Death feel that permeates the album brilliantly captures the simmering desperation of the occupants of yet another artificially sustained environment - The New World's Fair. While the punters party like it's way beyond 1999, their Masque Of The Red Death style celebration is doomed by another metaphorical plague - the spectre of nuclear, chemical and biological annihilation. The inevitable legacy of a soulless totalitarian plutocracy.
Backed by an awesome array of musicians, including members of Hawkwind and High Tide, Michael Moorcock proves that his Deep Fix creation - the Art band who imitated Life - are a force to be reckoned with.
As one might expect from the literary master, this is truly a white knuckle ride to the gates of Oblivion.
