mega rare

Original 1974 seldom seen and sought rarity... re-issued recently sure, BUT big difference, here is the Nigerian first press from 45 years ago ...  .Mega rare with any (any) hope to EVER find a Nigerian LP in clean condition. Gotta be the best condition copy that anyone could Fantastic visuals art gatefold sleeve ....view photos!

Instrumentality speaking the ORIGINAL 1974 LP is abounding with driving, inventive thick bass and propelling African drums ... the interplay hits nirvana when extreme fuzz guitar soloing suddenly falls from the sky and kicks in dramatically...

Extremely rare PLAYING SO CLEAN original 1974 album by Nigerian multi-instrumentalist Joni Haastrup and his band MonoMono !

Brilliant second album by Joni Haastrup’s band "MonoMono" from 1974. This super funky African rock-psoul-psych exotic band took on the blues-rock grooves of steamy west-coast jams with their own unique Yoruba flavor. Those in-the-know have been championing Joni Haastrup since day one!

Growing up in a royal household in Nigeria, Joni Haastrup began his musical journey performing for his brothers band , "The Sneakers" and was quickly snapped up as a vocalist for O.J. Ekemode and his Modern Aces (( Super Afro Soul-Rock sounds)) -- one of Afro-beat's formative LPs. Soon after, Ginger Baker of Cream fame replaced Steve Winwood with Joni on keys for Airforce's UK concerts in 1971 and the success of the collaboration led to further shows with Baker as part of the SALT project before Haastrup returned to Nigeria to set up the mighty MonoMono.

Sonically speaking, this is real Nigerian exotica stuff: the grooves are at times downright spacey (note in particular the acid-drenched "Awareness Is Wot You Need" and the only slightly less expansive themes in "Plain Fighting")

The "FAN-MAN" adds:

"Great music with great messages; syncopated African rhythms with good interplay of drums, guitar and bass, very energetic yet melodic & exotic jams with a certain throwback flavor to the era -- even haunting to these ears....."

CONDITION: The cover: rated: eye-appealing gatefold cover art is very clean when most ages old (like this) originals are wasted, torn & frayed...here an "EX" (excellent) rated well cared for collection copy by original owner who had careful hands! Noted there is no writing anywhere on this cover nor label (always an issue with this and similar early '70s Nigerian pressings.) There are no delete marks, no split seams, no bends, and no writing  ...

The vinyl: Rated: plays with excellent audio; visually VG++ or so, few minor marks on side one, BUT not audible, the complete LP plays outstanding...no notice of surface noise issues.   And both NIGERIAN Capitol labels are clean

A cool addition to anyone's music library!
