Few trappings so completely define what the 'summer of love' was all about than this album. Virtually defining the term psychedelic, this album's hit is what the creators of that silly Austin Powers movie turned to when they were looking for the difinitive psychedelic artifact. In fact, the album itself wasn't actually released during the summer of 1967, and had to wait until the end of the year before Uni could finally usher out their new long player. But the band had existed far earlier than this, and had gained quite a substantial following on their live circuit in and around the L.A. area. Most certainly, "Incense and Peppermints" had become a staple of their live performances all through 1967. Most of their mat'l can be considered semi-comm oriented flower pop, with male vocals, and strong psych flavor via the use of fuzz guitar and Voxx organ. Period flavor is literally off the charts.
