Closer to THE MOVE or the later sophisticated BEATLES, in fact combine the groups and add a classical edge with cello and oboe played by Roy Wood who heads the band along with Jeff Lynne, a master songwiter, both of which were members in THE MOVE.

[isdntekvideo] The first self titled album was released in December 1971 and due to a mix up with their American distributor was released as No Answer in the U.S. in Early 1972. ELO had evolved from a group called The Move. In fact, recording of the first ELO album was being done simultaneously with The Move's last album Message From The Country. The original line up consisted of: Roy Wood, Jeff Lynne, Bev Bevan with Bill Hunt and Steve Woolam The idea for the band was to combine rock and prog/psych music with a classical influence while "picking up where The Beatles left off." The album has a much different feel from later albums and, aside from "10538 Overture", songs from it rarely turn up on compilation albums.
