Hi, I'm the Space Quest Historian.
In August 2020, I successfully crowdfunded the Space Quest V: The Next Mutation soundtrack for vinyl via Qrates. It is a reorchestration of the original soundtrack on a double vinyl that's set to be released to everyone who pre-ordered it in February 2021.
What am I bidding on?
As part of the funding process, I opted to get 5 test pressings of the record to ensure quality and consistency with my original masters.
Each test pressing consists of two 12" black vinyl records with white labels. One side says "Side A," the other is blank (confusingly, both discs 1 and 2 say "Side A," but you can tell which is which from the manufacture date on the sticker on the front -- see pictures).
Both records are housed in a white anti-static inner sleeve and a white cardboard outer sleeve. Both records are wrapped in a transparent plastic overbag that have the aforementioned stickers with the manufacture date.
The copy you're bidding on has never been opened and never been played. It is absolutely pristine, straight from the pressing plant.
They will be shipped in a cardboard vinyl container with lots of duct tape around it. Tracked package, of course.
Why sell one on eBay?
My mate Steven Alexander recently got a kidney transplant. I couldn't be happier for him because up until then, he had two kidney failures, spent half his waking life on dialysis, and only broke the monotony of feeling like crap at home by occasionally being carted off by ambulance because his organs started spontaneously bleeding. He was and still is up to his ass in bills because being sick in the United States means dollar signs to the American medical system.
So I want to do something good for him. Hopefully, selling off one of these test pressings means I can help put at least a little dent in Steve's medical bills. Yes, Steve is getting every single penny off this auction.
Steve... who?
Steven co-founded the indie games company Infamous Quests that may be best known for their Quest for Infamy title, but will always have a special place in my heart for their fan remake of 1987's stone cold classic, Space Quest II: Vohaul's Revenge.
Doesn't Steven already have a GoFundMe? Didn't you (and other people) already do a charity stream for him?
Yes, and yes, and what's your point? Every bit helps. The guy may have a new kidney, but the bills from the last god-knows-how-many-years of dialysis and hospital visits didn't just go away. I'm just trying to think of ways to make a dent in that.
So hopefully someone will bid on this and help out a good friend who needs it. All the money from this auction go to Steve.
