Elis & Tom is an album released in 1974 by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Elis Regina, on the Polygram label, with recordings made between February 22 and March 9 of the same year at MGM Studios in Los Angeles, California. The album is the meeting of two of the biggest names in Brazilian popular music and features arrangements by César Camargo Mariano, pianist and then husband of Elis, who innovated using electric instruments in bossa nova. In a restrained and smooth way, she interprets several classics of the genre, such as "Águas de Março" (which became the album's biggest hit), "Corcovado", "Inútil Paisagem", sometimes in a duet with Jobim, who in other moments only accompanies her on guitar or piano. "Modinha" was the only song on the record to be fully arranged by Jobim.
Elis & Tom was a sales and critical success, and continues to be acclaimed to this day by musicians and critics worldwide. In addition, Elis & Tom has been remembered in the main Brazilian and international music books, compendia and encyclopedias and, in 2007, it was chosen by journalists and music critics as the 11th best album of Brazilian music by Rolling Stone.
