Debuting at No.1 in the UK charts - his first album to do so since 1974?s Hergest Ridge - the record met with modest critical success; albeit not comparable with the acclaim he received for his 1973 opus. The album was premiered with a live performance on the esplanade at Edinburgh Castle on 4 September 1992 featuring John Gordon Sinclair as Master of Ceremonies. The North American premiere was held at Carnegie Hall in New York City on 1 March 1993 a show broadcast live across the USA.
