Literally one of my favorite pitch black torch albums ever, and it partners perfectly with Sinatra's similarly midnight-tinged heartbreak album, "In The Wee Small Hours" (and that very song is on this record too.) Gorgeous cover art, and I love the way they used a gold metallic tint for the clock numbers and Julie's pants and shoes. Julie was one of the finest jazz vocalists of her era, with a uniquely sultry vibe and gorgeous smoky voice, and here she is blessed with a superb song selection ranging from Strayhorn's "Lush Life" (which she knocks out of the park), the haunting title track (by Thelonius Monk), to Erroll Garner's "Misty" and the Gershwin classic, "But Not For Me." Coincidentally, I am listing this around midnight in real time, and it's a great time to give it a listen. In mono, on Liberty Records, circa 1960.
This is a rare promo album. The vinyl has a white label which says "Audition Record." Jacket is VG+, VERY light touch of ring wear on the back, not faded at all, nice rich metallic gold color on Julie's pants and the numbers of the clock. Tiny piece of tape, top right corner, hard to see. Vinyl has consistent surface noise and some pips and pops, especially heavy on the very first song on side 1; it improves after that but still has noise throughout. (We play tested the whole thing.) That said, the core sound quality is very good--no distortion, nice and clear. No skips. We grade it Good Plus.
We send LPs via USPS media mail, very safely packed. We can send up to 5-6 albums in one box, at base $6 shipping price plus $1 for each additional disc. We play test most of our albums and our grading reflects that. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
