I can't even begin to say how amazing this album is. IF you saw the 1982 documentary of the same name about the dawn of the atomic age and the Red Scare days, well, that's great too but this fascinating collection stands on its own. Basically, it's a collection of novelty songs from the Cold War 1940s-50s period, all about the Atomic Bomb. The perfect listen after watching "Dr. Strangelove"! My favorite is hepcat jivester Slim Gaillard's "Atomic Cocktail" but honestly...it's all just so much fun to listen to. Every old school style is represented, from novelty songs to jazz to folk/roots music, gospel, schmaltzy doo wop type pop, and bluegrass/country. All about...the bomb.
This album is it. Sadly, there is no CD, no digital download. You might find these songs individually, but as a collection, this 1982 release and, I believe, a Japanese reissue is all there is. It's an incredible anthology of Cold War popular music that's both enjoyable as music and as a sociological document of a lost time.
Vinyl is playtested in full. Each individual track is from a different source as per the film, so some have "snap crackle pop" surface noise, and some do not. That is how the album was mastered; this actual vinyl is in great shape with no issues. VERY clean and glossy, one tiny mark on the last song of side two and that's it. Plays beautifully, just a tiny bit of background pops now and then between songs. One price sticker on the label of side two. We grade it Excellent. The jacket is VG+ to Excellent--only the lightest of edge wear, no splits, very clean, and a price sticker.
We send LPs via USPS media mail, very safely packed. We can send up to 5-6 albums in one box, at base $6 shipping price plus $1 for each additional disc. We play test most of our albums and our grading reflects that. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
