Mothers of Invention 1st Press OZ LP We're only in it for the money VG+ '68

Rare Original 1st pressing OZ LP released in 1968 on Verve Records. Cat: V6 5045. Australia was the only territory that had the intended "Sgt. Pepper's" parody art on front cover when it was originally released and it was quickly changed. It was not released as a gatefold. It is laminated on one side and has the lyrics printed on the back cover.

Uncovered in the out back of N.S.W. this record is part of a recent collection stored and unplayed for the last 20 years. Collected during the 90's and mostly sourced from overseas kept in a cool dry cellar there are some tasty gems on offer and we look forward on listing them over the next few months.

From the beginning, Frank Zappa cultivated a role as voice of the freaks imaginative outsiders who didn't fit comfortably into any group. We're Only in It for the Money is the ultimate expression of that sensibility, a satirical masterpiece that simultaneously skewered the hippies and the straights as prisoners of the same narrow-minded, superficial phoniness. Zappa's barbs were vicious and perceptive, and not just humorously so: his seemingly paranoid vision of authoritarian violence against the counterculture was borne out two years later by the Kent State killings. Like Freak Out, We're Only in It for the Money essentially devotes its first half to satire, and its second half to presenting alternatives. Despite some specific references, the first-half suite is still wickedly funny, since its targets remain immediately recognizable. The second half shows where his sympathies lie, with character sketches of Zappa's real-life freak acquaintances, a carefree utopia in "Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance," and the strident, unironic protest "Mother People."

Tracks : Are you hung up?/ Who needs the peace corps/ Concentration moon/ Mum and dad/ Bow tie teddy/ Harry, you're a beast/ What's the ugliest part of your body?/ Absolutely free/ Flower punk/ Hot poop/ Nasal retentive caliope music/ Let's make the water turn black/ The idiot bastard son/ Lonely little girl/ Take your clothes off when you dance/ What's the ugliest part of your body? (Reprise)/ Mother people/ The chrome plated megaphone of destiny.
