Manchester Orchestra is an American band from , formed in 2005. The group is currently composed of rhythm guitarist-singer-songwriter , lead guitarist Robert McDowell, keyboardist and percussionist Chris Freeman, bassist Jonathan Corley and drummer Tim Very. Former drummer Jeremiah Edmond parted ways with the band in January 2010 to focus on his family as well as running the band's record label, Favorite Gentlemen. To date they have released several and three : (2006), (2009) and (2011). They are currently signed to Favorite Gentlemen Recordings, which is distributed through .

History

Manchester Orchestra originated in the suburbs of . They are named after the English City , a place rich in musical history (, , , , , ). Feeling increasingly alienated at his "small-town-Georgia, Christian high school" named Providence Christian Academy, in suburban Atlanta, the band's lead singer Andy Hull became so frustrated that he spent his senior year studying at home. He also wrote and recorded his first full length album in 2004 while studying during his last year of high school.

Early in their career, the band recorded an album entitled . However, it was never released due to the shift in the band's musical direction and personal changes undergone following its recording. The band stated that "the band that made the record was different to the band now." That being said, it may be released at some point in the future. Some of the tracks written for the album were released instead on .

Following the EP, Manchester Orchestra recorded and released their debut album . This album gained the attention of the music industry, and eventually led to their signing with Canvasback. The album was released nationwide July 27, 2007. Guitarist Robert McDowell did not appear on this album.

The band worked in the studio recording their second EP, , with producer and engineer Brad Fisher. It was released October 7, 2008.

In early September 2008, the band announced on their Myspace blog that they had begun recording their second album entitled with producer Joe Chicarrelli (, ). On February 4, 2009, the band posted a link to a free download of the single "I've Got Friends"  and performed an acoustic version at The Fly’s . The album was released April 21, 2009. The single "Wolves At Night", was featured in the video game .

On January 12, 2010, the band announced that they will be releasing a split EP with Kevin Devine entitled . The EP was released digitally January 26, 2010.

Following the release of the Manchester Orchestra/ split EP, it was announced that will record a full-length album along with the members of Manchester Orchestra later that year, with half the album written by Devine and half by . On April 10, 2010, it was announced the new project's name was , and that the album will be released under that moniker, and not "Manchester Orchestra + Kevin Devine" as previously speculated. On August 16, 2010, it was announced that the will be released on October 19, 2010, digitally and on November 9, 2010, on a physical CD.

On March 2010, in an interview with the Dallas Observer, Hull mentioned that the band had begun work on a follow up to 2009's tentatively entitled Let Go of Your Sorrowful Groaning. He also said that the band have around 34 songs they are demoing and that in writing this album he was imagining a "spiritual miscarriage".

On September 2010, in an interview with magazine, the band announced that they were in the middle of recording their third full-length album. Although without a title yet they explain the album is completely different to anything they have released in the past. The album is being recorded with Dan Hannon and balanced between Blackbird Studios (Nashville, TN) and their own Favorite Gentlemen Studios (Atlanta, GA).

On October 23, 2010, during an appearance at in Philadelphia, following a show in support of their recently released , Manchester Orchestra debuted an acoustic version of the title track of their new album, "Simple Math". Frontman said the album would be released in March 2011.

On January 27, 2011, the band announced that their third full-length studio album, , would be released on May 10, 2011, and not in March 2011, as previously reported, as well as announcing the album's tracklist. It was also revealed that the album is set to be a concept album.

TV appearances

Manchester Orchestra has performed on several television shows, including the (twice), , , and . Their song, "I Can Feel A Hot One", was featured on (Season 2, Episode 3: "The Dark Night"), and was played throughout the episode. This song is featured on their EP "", which was released on October 7, 2008. Also, music from their newest album, "Mean Everything to Nothing", was played during the episode "I Would For You" (Season 6, Episode 20). The song The Only One from the same album was also featured on the season 1 finale of , "One Party Can Ruin Your Whole Summer". The song "The Only One" was also used in an episode from the fourth season of British drama . Andy and Robert also guest programmed Australian music video program during their tour as a part of along with a performance on the British live music show during their tour supporting .

Annuals is a six-piece indie-pop outfit from and , . The band was started by Adam Baker in 2003 as a side project of the still active sister band , formerly known as Sedona and headed up by lead guitarist Kenny Florence.

signed Annuals in the fall of and then released their debut LP on October 17, 2006. The members of Annuals are also all deeply involved in their own music-business venture, , which is owned by benefactor J.K. Horne. Terpsikhore released Annuals' first demo, titled "Lay Down Dry", in the summer of 2005, as well as the Git' Got EP in the summer of 2006.

Annuals appeared as the #25 entry in 's "Infinite Mixtape" series with their song "Brother", and have also made appearances on Spin.com, AOLMusicIndie.com, , I Guess I'm Floating, the Underrated, Brooklyn Vegan, and EarFarm (among others) - earning them a newfound reputation for being a "blog band." They are frequently compared to the . and are known for their intense live shows.

They made their national television debut on , and recently came back in October 2008 for a second show, playing Confessor, the opening track from their most recent album, Such Fun.

The January 24, 2007 episode of ("") used a large portion of the song "Fair".

Annuals' second album, Such Fun, was released on October 7, 2008.
