60s NORTHERN SOUL/CROSSOVER

ORIGINAL ISSUE

George McCrae (1942 - )

PRE-"ROCK YOUR BABY" MIAMI CROSSOVER

WITH HIS WIFE GWEN , GEORGE McCRAE RECORDED FOR ALSTON AT THE DAWN OF THE 70s (AS GEORGE & GWEN), THEN WATCHED AS GWEN WENT ON TO A RELATIVELY SUCCESSFUL SOLO CAREER

HE RECORDED TWO SOLO SINGLES HIMSELF DURING THE EARLY 70s, WITH THE EXQUISITE "TAKE IT ALL OFF" BEING HIS DEBUT FOR UNITED ARTISTS IN 1971, AND THIS GLADES 45 GAINING A RELEASE IN 1972 (NOT HELPED BY THE MIS-SPELLING OF HIS SURNAME)

JUST AS HE WAS ABOUT TO GIVE UP, HE TRIED ONE MORE TIME, WITH A LITTLE DITTY CALLED "ROCK YOUR BABY"

GEORGE Mac CRAE

"BACK LASH"

A. MAGIC!!!; uptempo early 70s dance rhythm; quality vocals, that reach falsetto during the two short break; all the names that were present at the dawn of "The Miami Sound" are here - Steve Alaimo, Willie Clarke, Clarence Reid, Rick Finch;  if you've not heard this, bid blind; someone is in for a quality slab of real soul

b/w

"LOVE WHO YOU CAN"

B. Very catchy Miami funkiness; similar to Betty Wright's "Clean Up Woman"

SORRY - NO "BORROWED" CLIPS ANYWHERE TO BE SEEN

(US: Glades 1702, 1972)
