The Eastern Moods of Ahmed Abdul-Malik, vinyl: VG+ (side two has a couple of nasty looking marks---see the photo---but when I test-played through that section, there was only a light click that could be heard in quieter passages, so perhaps the last half of the second side could be graded very conservatively as VG, but other parts of the lp definitely play better than VG+, so it all averages out)/cover: generic. Pretige/New Jazz Records.

A Side Matrix: VAN GELDER (stamped) NJLP-8299 A

B Side Matrix: VAN GELDER (stamped) NJLP-8299 B

From what I can find online, this matrix number is supposed to be for: Gildo Mahones - I'm Shooting High, and 8298 was supposed to be for Eastern Moods. Both 8298 and 8299 were unissued, so maybe that has to do with the confusion. Honestly, I have no idea, but this test pressing is definitely Eastern Moods.

I grade visually using the following guidelines:

Vinyl:
S = sealed

M = opened but perfect in all details
NM =  one or perhaps two minor problems at the most that should not affect sound (i.e. paper scuff, spindle mark at center hole, fingernail scratch on label, non- removable fingerprint or previous sticker glue)
NM– =  two or three of the above problems, maybe a slight, unraised hairline scratch (can’t be felt with a fingernail). In other words, a couple of visible defects that should not affect sound
VG+ = more scuffs and a few slightly visible scratches that should affect the sound minimally at most, but no deep scratches
VG = noticeable scratches and scuffs that will most likely be heard when played
VG– = more serious surface scratches or multiple defacing problems or slight groove depth scratch
G = it just gets worse from here and it would be rare for me to list a record in this condition

Covers:

S = sealed

M = absolutely perfect in every way

NM = should have no creases, folds, seam splits, or cut-out holes, just the slightest signs of age

NM– = like above, but with slightly more sign of age

VG+ = no more than three flaws that have to be explained, such as small writing, more noticeable ring wear, and slight wear to the seams

VG = has writing, stickers, or seam splitting, and looks obviously worn, but the artwork still looks decent

G = significantly more than normal wear and tear, but it still holds the record and isn’t ready for the garbage can

Less than G would be rare for me to list unless the vinyl was in significantly better shape

I do my best to be honest and conservative with my visual grading. If, after receiving the record, you feel that it was not described accurately, I do accept returns within seven days of when they were received by the buyer. Return shipping is paid by the buyer. Once I receive the record, I will refund the original purchase price, including the original shipping cost.
