This is the very rare first issue stereo press of A Saucerful Of Secrets and has to be the best I have seen and heard.  It is pressed on the blue/black Columbia label  - complete with E.J. Day flipback laminated cover.  This is also one of the first stereo pressings in that the 'bible' of all things Pink Floyd - pinkfloydarchives.com has it as number 4 on their 'matrix listing'.
Cat no SCX 6258 // Matrix numbers YAX 3633 - 1 / YAX 3634 - 1 // Stampers R 1 and A 1
Having listened to the entire LP I am incredibly impressed by the quality of the sound.  There is a little background noise but for a vinyl nearing 50 years old this is what you would expect.  'Let There Be More Light' starts Side One with superb audio.  There is no crackle at all at the beginning, the clarity is stunning.  In fact there is hardly any background noise at all throughout the track.  'Remember A Day' continues in the same fashion with very clear sound and again with absolute minimal background noise.  'Set The Controls...' plays stunningly for such a quiet track.  There are three pops at the beginning but overall it plays with great clarity with only very slight crackle.  'Corporal Clegg' does play with a little distortion but this is common with this LP due to the manufacturing process where the grooves are compressed so as to 'fit' onto one side hence the slight deterioration in audio quality.  Having said that it still plays very well with no jumps or skips at all.
'Saucerful' starts Side Two again with wonderful clarity.  It plays with hardly any crackle, just a little distortion in the louder middle section but with no pops, clicks or jumps at all.  The ending of the track is breathtakingly good, it plays with minimal crackle and plays so well especially as is so quiet.  The final two tracks both play amazingly well with very little interference and I am finding it difficult to find fault - there is a little crackle, that is all I can say!
Overall the vinyl plays superbly well and belies its 47 years.  It is without doubt the best I have heard and has obviously been extremely well looked after.  It lies perfectly flat on the vinyl and visually looks stunning.  Under a bright light there are only a few faint hairlines and one fine scratch on 'Sauceful' although this doesn't affect the audio.  It retains that glossy sheen of new vinyl if I'm honest and I would say the majority of the hairlines have been caused by sleeve removal.  I cannot stress just how good this first stereo press is and it would be very difficult to find one better.  A true archive copy that would grace any collection.
Play tested on my Technics SL-J110R turntable system.

  The laminated Ernest J. Day flipback cover is also in excellent condition.  It does have some handling wear on the opening edge and slight rubbing on the corners of the opening edge but there are no splits or tears at all and no writing on it either.  As is common with laminated covers there are a few creases but they are not really noticeable unless you go looking for them!  The edges are in wonderful condition and the thin pinched spine still looks great and is perfectly legible.  On the reverse the flipback has to be the best I have seen.  No dirt around the edges of the flipback which you often see, just a few minor creases.  On the flipback top right is 'File under Popular : Pop Groups' and underneath is the stereo catalogue number SCX 6258.  Overall an excellent 'Stereo' cover with only minor wear, what you would expect for nearly 50 years old!
The original inner sleeve is also included and has the reddish brown printing on cream coloured paper.  It is in superb condition for its age with no rips or tears, just a few faint marks here and there.  On each side it is advertising 16 LPs including 'The Beatles - Sgt Peppers' and also 'Piper' on the reverse.
 The rare blue/black labels are in excellent condition with only minor spindle wear and no marks or writing whatsoever.

Side One I would grade as Ex+
Side Two is Ex++
The cover is Ex   The labels are Near Mint-
The inner sleeve is Ex+
