Originally released in 1972, Vol. 4 was Black Sabbath’s fourth album, and fell square in the midst of their early ‘70s Ozzy-era peak.
Produced by guitarist and creative kingpin Tony Iommi, the record found the iconic group branching out from their established metal formula, intersecting gargantuan riffs with hints of experimentation and even sensitivity.
This famously manifested in the band’s first ever ballad, Changes; but there were other oddities too, from the shameless coke-ode that is Snowblind to the instrumental studio accident FX.
Moreover, having defined the heavy metal sound with their first three LPs, Vol. 4 showed Sabbath also possess the capacity to adapt - an ability which ultimately would only enhance their legendary status.
180g vinyl.
Includes a copy of the album on CD.
