Originally released in 1997, Buena Vista Social Club was a worldwide sensation, and holds the distinction of being the biggest selling “world” music album of all time.

The project was conceived when producer Ry Cooper travelled to Cuba with a view to recording sessions with local musicians, most of whom were unknown at the time.

It was an ambitious undertaking, yet no one could have foreseen the success which lay ahead, with the record shifting over seven million copies and elevating its artists to superstar status.

As well as all that, it also served to popularise Cuba’s rich musical heritage, and in doing so contributed to a massive boom in Cuba’s tourist and recording industries.

Lovingly re-mastered by the original team and pressed on heavyweight vinyl, this new reissue is a bare essential for any exotic music fan.
