Released in 1979, The Wall is the classic 11th album from Pink Floyd. One of the iconic double albums, the record is, like its three immediate predecessors, a conceptual piece. It follows Pink, a character whom Waters modelled after himself and the band's original leader, Syd Barrett. Pink's life begins with the loss of his father during the Second World War and continues with abuse from his schoolteachers, an overprotective mother, and the breakdown of his marriage; all of which contribute to his eventual self-imposed isolation from society, represented by a metaphorical wall.

The record is one of the biggest sellers ever in the US and Pink Floyd’s second best-seller worldwide (behind The Dark Side of the Moon), and was ranked at #87 in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. In other words, it’s an essential!
