Though this did have a limited run pressed on pink vinyl back when this was first issued in 2009, this is a black vinyl pressing. Compiles rare studio demos and vintage live performances. TRACKS, as it is listed on the back of the album’s jacket:  My Way, Pretty Vacant, Satellite, don’t Give Me No Lip Child, Submission, Did You No Wrong, New York, Substitute, I’m A Lazy Sod, God Save The Queen, Anarchy In The UK, Watcha Gonna Do About It. DESCRIPTION:  The following review was written by Tim Bucknall (June '09) and, as there is no information about these tracks included with this release, this should satisfy your enquiring mind; Tim’s attention to detail is to be commended, an indispensable service to the collector (you may want to save this information, should you choose to purchase or already have this album). NOTE:  There are two interview tracks listed with the below track by track run-down which are not listed on the jacket, in case you were wondering.

 

TRACK DETAILS:

           

01)  My Way – Sounds like the normal single with the start missing.

 

02)  Pretty Vacant – Live at Winterland January 14, 1978. Sped up.

 

03)  Satellite – Dave Goodman Spunk demo, but at the correct speed.

 

04)  No Lip – Massive upgrade on other available versions! The original version without overdubs. Blows away the version on Sexbox and Pirates Of Destiny.

 

05)  Submission – Goodman Spunk demo, but at correct speed.

 

06)  Did You No Wrong – Chelmsford Prison gig, but with a bassline! Presumably Goodman overdubbed it; I can't hear any other overdubs on the track.

 

07)  Interview – Scottish interviewer. Clips from the interview appeared on Some Product, however the Lydon portion featured here was not on Some Product.

 

08)  New York – Burton-on-Trent gig, but at least it's the correct speed and good quality.

 

09)  Substitute – Goodman Spunk demo. Massive upgrade from other available versions. Equal to the sound on the Long Lost Videos DVD, but without the anti-piracy bleep. Note:  when the Long Lost Videos DVD was later issued as Spunk The Movie it had inferior sound, even though there was no annoying bleep.

 

10)  Seventeen – Goodman Spunk demo; correct speed but sounds muddier than tracks 3, 5 & 9.

 

11)  God Save The Queen – Gooseberry Studios January 77. When listening to this I didn't notice the glitch that occurs around 0:12 on other copies of this session. If it's there it's less noticable.

 

12)  Anarchy In The UK – "Bible quotations" version, Oct 76. Dave Goodman's mix.

 

13)  Bill Grundy Interview – A little more complete at the start than some versions I've heard - starts with Grundy rambling about "chains round the neck".

 

14)  Watcha Gonna Do About It? – Manchester June 4th 1976.

 

TIM’S COMMENTS:

 

This is a great compilation. I didn't expect it to be this good as even the seller I bought it from described it as "stuff we've heard a million times before!" If the Winterland track was at the correct speed I'd give this compilation 100/100 with no hesitation. This is very much the sort of compilation Dave Goodman would have put out on Dojo records if he was still alive. In fact I'm certain that this stuff leaked from his "stash". No Lip & Substitute are the original Oct. ‘76 versions without overdubs but in the best available quality. The versions on Pirates Of Destiny were smothered in fake reverb by Goodman and the 2002 Sexbox set remastered the tracks from this source. These versions are vastly superior; it is just a shame they didn't include Stepping Stone. Hopefully, it will surface on another release.

 

To sum up:  The 2 tracks mentioned above make this a great purchase. I'll be listening to this LP much more than, for example the 2006 Spunk reissue which for me was ruined by speed problems (the 1976 tracks are too slow). This LP has the Spunk tracks at the correct speed.

Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers.

NON-ARRIVAL OF PACKAGES:

It has been several years since I’ve had a package not make its US destination, so risk is minimal.

I do my best to quickly post packages, but once the package is in the hands of the world’s postal system it is beyond my control. With First-Class Package International Service my only option for investigating the loss of your package is to verify that it left this country to its destination country. Most all delayed/lost packages have disappeared/been delayed after they have reached their destination country. NOTE:  Based on recent buyer feedback, International packages have been moving much slower these days; it is not unusual for a package to take over three weeks for delivery, though normally packages should arrive in 7 to 15 business days.
