The Beatles : Revolver 1966 (2nd Mono Pressing)

This rare mono pressing from 1966 is in excellent condition.  It is known as the "standard" second pressing as denoted by the matrix numbers ending -2, -2.  First pressings have a side 2 matrix number of XEX 606-1.  This LP has only been owned by one previous owner who looked after their records extremely well.

Mono 2/2 Second pressing on Yellow/Black Parlophone label.  'The Gramophone Co. Ltd' etc is printed around the perimeter edge of the labels.

'Sold in U.K. subject to resale price conditions' printed below the Parlophone labels.  Being such an early mono pressing it has Dr. Robert on both the label and the cover.  Later pressings have Doctor Robert.

Visual grading

The vinyl and cover have been superbly well looked after by its one previous owner.  The vinyl has been played a number of times but the spindle wear is not excessive.  There are a number of fine hairlines caused by sleeve removal no doubt and this is more obvious on Side One.  There are no feelable scratches however and whilst there are a couple of small marks on Side Two they do not affect the audio.  So whilst it is not a mint looking vinyl the hairlines are just that, hairlines!  In my opinion it is still a very clean looking vinyl for its advanced age!  The cover is also in fabulous condition, beautifully clean.

Play grading

There is hardly any lead in static so you're automatically thinking this is going to play well!  'Taxman' plays with excellent audio.  There is just a hint of background static and distortion although the latter is no doubt due to a mono vinyl being played through my stereo system.  This version of the classic 'Eleanor Rigby' plays with stunning audio with only the slightest of background static that is totally non-intrusive.  It really is one of best versions I have heard in a long time.  'I'm Only Sleeping' has four faint clicks in the middle section and a minor amount of static again.  'Love You To' has one click at the beginning and no further issues.  The remainder of the side does not disappoint and plays with stunning clarity and resonance.  There is light intermittent background static but it is not intrusive in my opinion.  It is very quiet and there is certainly no loud crackle.  Overall this side plays extremely well with and is a great listen from beginning to end.  'She Said She Said' does play with a little more distortion.

'Good Day Sunshine' on Side Two plays with breathtaking quality and there is barely any background interference on this classic track.  'And Your Bird Can Sing' more than matches this quality and plays exceptionally well for a louder track.  'For No One' as one of the quieter tracks plays beautifully with only a touch of barely audible static.  In all honesty though I have rarely heard better and the clarity and depth of the sound is first class.  'Dr. Robert' and 'I Want To Tell You' plays extremely well with only a minor amount of distortion.  Again I am just being honest (as my feedback testifies) and in my opinion it does not interfere.  With a vinyl of this age you expect some interference but it really is minimal here.  There are no loud clicks on any of the tracks and the clarity is excellent.  No crackle whatsoever.  The final two tracks play in much the same way, with excellent audio and some distortion on 'Got To Get You Into My Life'.  The final track 'Tomorrow Never Knows' actually plays with fabulous audio.  I turned it up loud and it played with fantastic audio!  A great ending.  With more or less complete silence between tracks this album has been very well looked after down the years.

Cover

The G & L flipback cover is in such incredible condition it must be in the top 1% in the known universe!  The edges and spine have no wear and only the two bottom corners have a very minor amount of creasing but is really not that obvious.  The laminated front cover is so clean and the laminate itself has suffered no damage in the last 51 years.  The opening edge has barely any handling wear.  What can I say about the back cover?  It is Near Mint and definitely has the wow factor!  The flipbacks are in near pristine condition with only 3/4 minor creases.  The corner of the opening edge has a very small amount of pinching.  It is so rare to find a 'Revolver' cover looking as clean as this.  There are no marks anywhere to be seen.

Inner sleeve

The plain white inner has no splits or tears just some light creasing.  It has 'Patents Applied For' and 'Made in Great Britain' printed on the bottom of one side.

Labels

The yellow/black Parlophone labels are in excellent condition with only some spindle wear, no marks or writing at all.  The KT tax stamp is on Side One.
