Product Description
Recording information: 1964.
The Road Runners were Fresno, California's fuzz and racket squad back in 1966 and 1967. Although their rep as the area's shake-'em-on-down combo was secure, they left little behind in the way of recorded proof. This 12-inch vinyl album brings together all eight of their studio recordings, along with seven more performances from various live shows. The group's sound was a combination of garage-punk Farfisa organ with generous helpings of fuzz guitar wedded to strong harmonies on top of even stronger hooks. Strong songwriting from bassist/lead singer Randy Hall's pen on "Night Time Love," "I'll Make It Up to You," "Tell Her You Love her," "Sleepy Friend" and "Little Miss Love." And no doubt the band could burn live, as the takes on "The Train Kept A-Rollin'," "2120 South Michigan Avenue" and "Baby Please Don't Go" aptly demonstrate. A band with a lot more potential than their local status would lead you to believe, and thus, a hidden rock & roll treasure. ~ Cub Koda
