180g Coloured Effect Vinyl encased in 350gsm Mirrorboard Varnished Gatefold Sleeve, with Pantone Neon Red printed ontop of mirror effect. Right hand houses the vinyl inside a black and Pantone Neon Red Inner Sleeve and the left hand side holds a 12pg Full Colour and Neon Red Booklet on uncoated stock containing rare photos and brand new text about the band, his muse and that era, by James Chance himself. The release has two extra tracks to the original release and the Free Download contains an extra selection of live tracks.

Come contort yourself…the New York No Wave classic from the CONTORTIONS is back! It’s just over 35 years since James Chance first assaulted turntables with the juddering jazz punk fusion that permeate the tracks immortalised on BUY.

Under the moniker the CONTORTIONS, explosive saxophonist James Chance… aka James White, with the help of several other noted New York art scene luminaries spearheaded a sub-genre dubbed No Wave; a deconstructionist approach to rock ‘n’ roll that mirrored New Yorks degradation and dissonance through avant garde compositions and articulated noise. Considered by many to be the missing link between modern jazz and punk, so-called No Wave got its name from the now famous No New York compilation curated by Brian Eno, after his experience of THE CONTORTIONS and other notable bands of the era at NYC’s Artists Space in ‘78.

The CONTORTIONS angular and coarse marriage to an avant jazz sensibility was the nucleus of the bands originality, a bitter sweet pill of funk and disco spat out via compellingly nihilistic live performances. Tracks such as ‘Contort Yourself’, ‘I Don’t Want To Be Happy’ and ‘Roving Eye’ serve as testaments to how jagged, confrontational and arresting a genuinely infectious groove can be, it’s no surprise BUY’s influence is evident everywhere from acid jazz through to the music of Talking Heads and Sonic Youth. BUY THE CONTORTIONS serves as a truly original statement, sounding as cutting edge today as the day it was released and proving he was ‘down’ long before most modern seekers of the truth were even born, James Chance NYC ensemble took it to the next level. Provocative, arresting and drenched in an infinite cool Buy simultaneously serves as a document of a band on the brink of a new frontier, as well as a document of downtown New Yorks’ loft space art scene in the late 70’s, unwittingly about to shape the following decade.

So now, 35 years later, FUTURISMO and James Chance are proud to present the Redux version of this influential LP. Fully remastered and featuring two bonus tracks recorded at a brief reformation, this LP comes on heavy 180g limited edition coloured vinyl with free download. The record is encased in a mirror varnished gatefold sleeve containing a brand new booklet featuring rare photography by the late great Anya Phillips and newly written text by the legendary James Chance himself.

Vinyl Records and their Sleeves are very easily damaged in the post, with our 13 years experience we take great care when packaging vinyl records, by opening and removing the inner sleeve (without touching the record) to try and avoid any problems.

***Although, if you would rather we did not carefully open one side of the PVC sleeve (if supplied), please contact us once the order has been placed, we cannot accept any responsibility for spine damage to the sleeve in transit if the record is not removed***

DELIVERY TIMESCALE: We expect to deliver all orders within 7 working days of the orders being placed. Still, sometimes delivery could take longer, according to the destination country and its postal services:

Should you receive any items that you did not order, or that prove to be faulty, you can return them to us by emailing to request our returns address within 14 days of delivery.

Damaged items: If the damage is limited to standard cases, please email us with details of the damaged cases and we can send replacements out to you. If the damage affects the product itself, the libretto or any non-standard packaging, please follow the instructions for faulty items within 14 days of receiving the delivery.

Unwanted Purchases: You may return your order by informing us of this by email up to 14 days after receiving the delivery. Goods must be returned to us unopened (factory sealed) or un-used and you must obtain a proof of postage receipt for the returned goods, the buyer is responsible for return costs.
