Having delivered the landmark Tubular Bells in 1973 and sequel Tubular Bells II 19 years later, album number 18 once more found Mike Oldfield returning to the themes of his masterwork, on a record which conveniently coincided with the original’s 25th anniversary.

A markedly different proposition from its two predecessors, Tubular Bells III was created in Ibiza, and drew direct inspiration from the electronic music blasting from the island’s clubs and bars.

It was the trilogy’s least successful entry, yet for many represented an unlikely return to form following a somewhat patchy run.
