The Who : My Generation 1st Mono Press (Brunswick) 1B / 1B
This highly collectable original first pressing plays with superb audio overall with not one single click or pop.  The most impressive I have ever heard.  A very clean 'Brunswick' cover also.

Visual grading

Overall this is a very impressive looking vinyl and is not heavily marked like so many.  There are some hairlines and 4/5 that are a little more obvious but there are no scratches affecting the audio.  There is a thicker 'line' on 'Much Too Much' but again this has no bearing on the 'high end' audio of that track.  It has been played a lot judging by the spindle wear but it has always been carefully handled as confirmed by the sound quality.  Not trashed at parties like so many!  The only downside is that there is a small warp on one edge which is more obvious when playing S1.  However, it is not major and there is no pressure on the needle etc.  Of course it could be rectified as there are 'flattening' machines out there now.
Play grading

'Out In The Street' begins with only a little background static and then plays with superb depth and clarity.  I can't quite believe this is 53 years old!  There is just one crackle sound right at the end.  'I Don't Mind' has only a very faint touch of light static here and there but to be honest it's barely audible and there are no clicks or pops.  The fade out is nigh on perfect!  'The Good's Gone' is just as impressive with excellent clarity again.  A superb version!  What is surprising is that there is just no distortion, a rarity on this 'louder' track.  The remaining tracks on this side play to the same standard.  'Much Too Much' especially plays with wonderful definition and there is just no interference at all.  No clicks or pops, skips or jumps and no annoying crackle either.  'My Generation' perhaps has a little distortion, more obvious towards the end I would say, but this of course could be due to two reasons.  One, being the final track on the side where the grooves are often pressed closer together and two, a mono record being played through a stereo system.  It still plays incredibly well though.
Amazingly there is hardly any lead in static on S2 and 'The Kids Are Alright' then plays with great depth and clarity.  Again there is no sign of interference.  The clarity really is exceptional and a prime example of this is on the fade out where there is no static or crackle whatsoever.  'Please Please Please' is then a real test for this vinyl being a relatively quiet track.  I am pleased to say it passes with flying colours!  The quality is stunning, there was not one click or pop and only a couple of mega quiet dust ticks.  Wow!  'It's Not True' also plays with superlative audio.  I'm running out of adjectives for the stunning quality on offer here!  'I'm A Man' has a few quieter sections and whilst there is a little static here and there it is not intrusive and is very much in the background.  The final two tracks play with very impressive audio although I would say 'The Ox' does have play with a little distortion.  No 'background' on the fade out!
In summary I think it would be difficult to find a genuine 1B/1B first press with clearer audio than this.  Having played every second I can safely say there are no clicks or pops or any intrusive interference for that matter.  A true piece of rock history this highly collectable 'Brunswick' pressing will add to any collection and comes with a very clean cover also.
The Cover
This is one of the cleanest versions of the original 'Brunswick' cover I have ever seen.  The edges and thin spine are in superlative condition with no rubbing and there is also hardly any corner wear.  The spine is 100% legible and the lettering itself stands proud, it is so clean.  The front cover is very clean but you can just make out a very faint written name next to the catalogue number top left.  The opening edge has a little handling wear which is a little more obvious on the back.  The back cover itself is very clean when you consider how 'white' it is.  There is some ringwear and a little fading but there is no obvious marking or staining.  This is highly impressive cover and will not disappoint the avid collector.
Inner sleeve
The original inner sleeve has no side splits and only a couple of very small tears on the top edge.  There is some age related fading but again considering its age and the fact that it is made out of paper it has stood the test of time very well.
The labels
There is a fair amount of spindle wear on the 'Brunswick' labels but are very clean overall.  You can just make out the initials 'RW' written on the S2 label.  The KT tax code is stamped on both run out grooves both of which incidentally remain very clean.
