Johnny Marr’s Call the Comet is all killer, no filler. Marr has said that he used the record to imagine the future — one that’s not quite utopian, but one that’s certainly better than the world many of us currently envision, a dark place where shadows seem to grow with each click of a news article. Well, if a bit of optimism works so effectively for Mr. Marr maybe the rest of us should go with it? Because this album certainly is a gem, each track segueing effortlessly, beautifully into the next, each song declared the favorite until the next one starts and blows your mind again. A triumph and a delight.
