Genesis : Trespass (1st Pink Scroll Press)

This highly collectable album has 'The Famous Charisma Pink Scroll Label' and plays with stunning audio overall.  There is just one section on S2 with some interference.  It comes complete with a very clean fully textured gatefold and the rare lyric sheet that is in superb condition.

Visual grading

Overall this vinyl is in lovely condition and it retains a very healthy glossy sheen.  There are only a small number of very faint hairlines and the only negative is one very small scratch on S2 that does cause some interference as detailed below.  However, for a vinyl approaching 50 years old this is a very impressive looking vinyl and there are no other scratches or marks.

Play grading

The clarity on the 'Looking For Someone' intro is stunning with only a small number of mega light dust ticks, nothing intrusive.  As it progresses it continues to play with wonderful audio.  There are a couple of light crackle sounds in the second quiet section but that is being overly-critical perhaps.  This plays with a deep rich sound and there is nothing that detracts from the superb audio on offer and much of it is 'as new' it is that good.  There is only a minimal amount of very light background static in the quieter sections but it is  intermittent and totally non-intrusive.  Overall this is a very impressive version and has no clicks or pops.  The louder sections are so powerful and play with Mint- quality without doubt.  The end sequence in particular is stunning!  'White Mountain' starts superbly with barely any 'background', just one light static sound, and the remainder is also very impressive.  There are a small number of faint ticks that you would expect to find on a vinyl of this age and there is also one click but rarely have I heard a pink scroll press playing as clearly as this.  Even on the super quiet 'whistling' section near the end there is only the minimum of light static and the 'humming' piece then ends the track with sublime clarity, no interference whatsoever.  'Visions Of Angels' again begins very impressively with no 'background' and then proceeds to play with wonderful depth and clarity.  There is nothing intrusive and for such a rare and collectable pressing this really is a stunning version.  There is barely any static and as the music build in the middle the sound is so strong and there is no distortion on the top end.  To the end it plays fantastically well and I repeat there is just no obvious interference at all.  This end section is absolutely stunning and ends S1 in supreme style.

'Stagnation' has only very light intermittent static on the intro and still plays to a very high standard.  As you continue the audio is very clear and there are no clicks or pops at all.  The instrumental section after the first vocal plays extremely well with only a couple of crackle type sounds and the bare minimum of static.  Great clarity.  As the music builds the audio is stunning and plays with incredible power and depth.  There are a number of light clicks in the following quiet section but they do progressively get louder so this section can only grade as G+ unfortunately and this lasts for just over one minute.  From then on there are no other issues, the audio is very impressive and the end section in particular is stunning.  The intro on 'Dusk' has only minimal light static for the first few seconds, nothing intrusive, and then plays with superb precision.  You expect some 'background' on a vinyl nearing 50 years of age but there is barely any here.  With so many quiet sections the clarity here is incredible and there are certainly no clicks or pops.  The rest of the track is of the same immaculate standard and there is no interference at all.  This track easily qualifies as Near Mint in my opinion.  'The Knife' is stunning from the very first note and this opening section is Mint- without doubt.  There is quite simply no interference and it plays with tremendous power and depth.  The first quiet section plays with wonderful clarity and the only obvious 'background' is a couple of very gentle ticks but overall this is absolutely stunning!  For a genuine first pressing to play as clearly as this is a rarity.  The sonic quality and depth here is second to none and as the volume increases there is no let up in quality.  Wow this is good!  This classic grades as Near Mint and the vast majority is better than that!  No distortion, no clicks, pops or crackle and no obvious static.  The final section plays with immense power and yes no interference.  A stunning finale to this rare pressing.

In summary the audio on this rare pink scroll pressing plays with great quality and it is only that section on S2 that lets it down.  A shame because so much of the audio here is stunning!  The gatefold is very clean and as can be seen it includes the rare lyric inner that is so often missing.

The Gatefold

The original fully textured E.J Day gatefold is in excellent condition with only minor shelf wear.  The edges have some light rubbing and the spine has only two small areas of minor wear.  There is a little corner wear but this is by no means major as you can see from the photos.  The opening edge is super clean with barely any handling wear.  The front cover is in great order with no marking or creasing at all and the back cover is exactly the same.  This is rare!  The inside of the gatefold is again very impressive and has only a small number of very faint marks but is certainly one of the cleanest I have seen.  It is obvious to see that this one has been very well maintained down the years and you would be hard pressed to find a better one.  Overall it deserves and Ex grading but there are many aspects that are better than that.

The 'Pink Scroll' labels

They are both very clean with just one very small area of 'bubbling' on the S1 label but it really isn't that noticeable.  There is no marking or writing and not a great deal of spindle wear either.  They both still have that strong vibrant pink colour as fresh as the day when first released.

Lyric Inner

This is definitely one of the cleanest I have ever seen and has no marking of any kind and just the one small crease on the top edge.

Inner sleeve

The original die-cut inner sleeve has no splits or tears just a some light creasing, a little 'spotting' and age related fading.
