Wish You Were Here A1/B3 1st Press + Postcard

Visual grading
The vinyl is in excellent condition with a lovely glossy sheen and relatively few sleeve removal hairlines on each side. In fact this record exemplifies just how superficial hairlines can be as they have no quantifiable affect on the stunning audio whatsoever. What affects audio is marks, scratches etc and there are none of those! There is not very much spindle wear and this is one vinyl that has always been very carefully handled and preserved. The run out grooves and labels are in great condition - a fine example for a first pressing.
Play grading
The slow build up on Wright's intro on 'Shine On...' is very clean and has only a small number of mega light static ticks. None of the original quality is lost and the music can be heard perfectly well. Once the second synth joins in there is barely any 'background' and you cannot fail but be impressed by the clarity and there are certainly no clicks, pops or crackle. As Gilmour enters the scene the playback is nigh on perfect and this contines into his second guitar piece. There is only the lightest of static albeit very brief and I only mention it to be complete in my grading and in no way is it intrusive. The clarity is stunning and there won't be many A1/B3 first pressings around that are as good as this! From Mason's first section to the first vocal the audio is Near Mint without question and as it progresses there is decrease in quality. The entire vocal section plays with a clarity and depth that is so impressive and there is no interference of any kind. The same can also be said for the sax instrumental that brings Part One to a close and there is also barely any static on the fade out section.
'Welcome To The Machine' plays so clearly from the outset with only minimal static but I must reiterate it is only very light and totally non-intrusive. It soon disappears and then plays with wonderful definition. The music is so strong and 'clean' and you can turn it up to loud without fear of hearing any unwanted 'background'. The playback is absolutely stunning and from the first vocal to the instrumental section onwards it is 'as new' with not one iota of interference. Wow! The final quieter section has barely any static and the 'crowd' can be heard with perfect clarity. It is only a super clean vinyl such as this that you can hear the deliberate double pop sound and cough right at the end!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
'Have A Cigar' on S2 plays with stunning precision from the very first groove with not even a dust tick. This is rare for any vinyl let alone one from 1975! I cannot emphasise enough how immaculate the audio is here - there is no intrusion from start to finish. Perhaps a couple of dust ticks but I am happy to grade this as Mint- the playback cannot be faulted. There is just some very light static on the quiet radiophonic section at the end.
As any Floyd collector knows one of the real tests of this vinyl is the radiointro into 'Wish You Were Here' as it so often plays with a fair amount of static and crackle. I am very pleased to say it plays extremely well with only minimal static and you can hear the quiet 'cough' and 'sniff' very clearly! There is just one tick and a touch more static for 2/3 seconds prior to the acoustic guitar but overall this radiophonic section plays very well indeed. Once vocal begins the clarity is fantastic and continues in the same way. It plays to the highest standard possible and again the entire vocal section is Mint- with no intrusion, just pure unadulterated audio perfection! The fade out also plays with great precision.
The 'wind' intro on 'Shine On...Part Two' is very clean with again only very light static. Perhaps I mention static too much but as my regular customers know I will mention anything that isn't 'music' even if minor! Believe me this intro is still very impressive and there are no clicks, pops or crackle. As it progresses the audio is spectacular and this is especially true on the Gilmour's guitar section. It is immaculate, Mint without question. The final vocal is of the same sublime standard and this clarity continues into the instrumental section. As the volume decreases there is no obvious 'background' and you only hear a minimal hint of mega light static if you put your head up close to the speakers! This is sensational audio and aside from one quiet dull tick it plays with wonderful clarity to the very end. The quiet end section is nigh on perfect with barely any static, certainly nothing intrusive...again.
In summary this A1/B3 first pressing is of a standard that you rarely find today. I am not exaggerating when I say there is no obvious interference at all. There are no clicks, pops or crackle and only the minimum of light static on a couple of intros and fade outs. The clarity and depth on offer here is so impressive and I haven't sold many as good as this in my time! Again how many of these have no clicks or pops?! This is 'high end' audio from start to finish
The Cover
The G&L cover remains strong and robust but with a little shelf wear here and there. The edges are in lovely condition with no rubbing and the thin pinched spine has no marking. The corners have no obvious wear at all and remain in great shape as does the opening edge which has no handling wear at all. The front cover has a little fading around the edges, a couple of very faint marks and also a small crease on the top left corner. The back cover has very little fading and only 3/4 faint print marks again.
The Lyric Inner & Postcard
The original lyric inner (with three cut corners) has no side splits or creasing and remains in superb condition with only a couple of print marks again. The postcard is near perfect with only a little 'whitening' of a few perforations.
The Labels
They are in lovely condition with no marking/writing and only minimal spindle wear.
