Description
Original UK Probe pink label stereo press LP.
The album was recorded on the 10th of September 1970, after the warden of the jail Winston Moore approached B.B. King to play for the prisoners in Cook County Jail, Chicago. His record company ABC agreed to record the performance and it became one of his most popular albums. The album went to no.1 in the R'n'B charts and no.15 in the US charts. It also helped to raise public awareness of the racist conditions for many prisoners in the US and B.B. King founded a prisoner rehabilitation charity, playing free prison gigs for the rest of his life.
This is the original 1971 press, with the pink Probe labels and the A-1 B-2 matrices and 1-A 1-R stampers of the first presses.
The Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd textured flipback sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some light edge/corner wear and very light storage rubbing on the front cover. The piched spine is intact, and fully readable, the plain company inner is intact & is in EX condition.
The record is in visually EX condition, with a couple of faint hairlines and one or two light needle marks/scuffs visible on each side. The labels are in EX condition, clean & bright with evidence of a few spindle markings and the record retains all its original shine.
The sound reproduction is EX+, still clear & precise throughout with no loud pops or crackle & definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is very brief background noise during the run in grooves. Overall, a really great, loud & clear listen.
The matrix nos. are; SPB-1032, A-1 stamper 1-A, B-2 stamper 1-R. This is one of the early copies of the 1st press of the original 1971 UK stereo issue of this album!
