NAVY BLUES is the fourth full-length release by Nova Scotia's preeminent power pop band, Sloan. Their early '90s major releases demonstrated a seriously committed quartet of music lovers. Once they reverted to independent labels (starting with their previous album, the essential ONE CHORD TO ANOTHER), their already sharp writing got even better.
Here they embrace everything from richly detailed arrangements like "Seems So Heavy," to the riff-heavy strutting of "She Says What She Means," to '60s radio fare such as "C'mon C'mon (We're Gonna Get Started)." Far from being merely nostalgia-focused, this quartet draws on the last 40 years of rock and pop history, twisting and turning it to meet their own needs, and they do it with power, grace, and style.
