Elmore James, Blues After Hours, Orig UK Ember Mono LP, VG+/VG+, A-1 1st Press.
Description
Original UK Ember label of the 1st mono press.
Elmore James was an American blues guitarist, singer, songwriter and bandleader of the 'Broom Dusters'. He was known as "King of the slide guitar" and was noted for his use of loud amplification and his stirring voice. This is the first UK issue of 'Blues After Hours' originally recorded by Elmore James in 1960 on Crown Records in the US, but not released until 1968 in the UK. The record company Ember renamed the album 'The Late Fantastically Great Elmore James', but kept the original title on the labels.
This is the original issue with the earliest A-1 B-1 matrices and no mother stampers.
The front laminated sleeve is intact & in VG+ condition, with some very light corner/edge wear and very light laminate rubbing on the front cover, but there is a small area of damp damage on the bottom of the rear cover (see pics). The spine is intact & fully readable, the plain company inner is intact & in VG+ condition.
The record is in visually VG+ condition, with a couple of faint sleeve removal hairlines, needle scuffs and some light bag marking visible under bright light on each side. The labels are in EX condition, clean & bright with evidence of a couple of spindle markings on each side.
The sound reproduction is VG+ to EX, still clear & precise throughout with definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some brief, low background noise during the run in grooves and in a couple of the quieter passages.
Overall, still a really great, loud listen.
The matrix nos. are; LP-3397, A-1 no stamper, B-1 no stamper.
This is one of the very first few hundred pressings of the original 1968 UK mono 1st issue of this album!
