Description
Original UK Island/Charisma label stereo press.
Their fourth album was recorded in over several months during the second half of 1970, including the new Island Studios at Basing Street and was released in March 1971. After their USA tour in 1970 Glenn Cornick was fired and replaced by Jeffrey Hammond on bass and John Evan on keyboards. It became their best selling album reaching no.4 in the UK, which is probably why some copies were pressed with Island pink rim labels, as well as the more common Chrysalis/Island labels.
This is the original issue with the ILPS catalogue number and Chrysalis/Island credits on the sleeve, with the green Chrysalis label with the white i and the earliest A-1U B-3U matrices of the first presses.
The E. J. Day Group textured matt gatefold sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some light corner/edge wear and some light storage rubbing on the rear outer cover. The spine is intact, in EX Condition and fully readable, the lyric inner is intact & is in EX condition.
The record is in visually EX condition, with a couple of faint & wispy sleeve removal hairlines and one or two light needle marks/scuffs visible on each side that do not affect play. The labels are in EX condition, clean & bright with evidence of a couple of faint spindle markings on each side.
The sound reproduction is EX, still clear & precise throughout with no loud pops, hiss or crackle & definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some very low background noise during the run in grooves.
Overall, a really great, loud & clear listen.
The matrix nos. are; ILPS-9145, A-1U mother stamper 1-M, B-3U mother stamper 2-GG.
This is one of the early copies of the original 1971 UK stereo 1st issue of this album!
