Queen : Queen (Debut) 3U/3U 1st Press

This first pressing plays with incredible audio on both sides and 'as new' is no exaggeration.  It may well be the finest 3U/3U I have ever played it is that good.  As always I have played every track in full and the clarity, power and definition is STUNNING.  There are no clicks, pops or static and I only detected one very light tick on S2 which you could easily miss it is so quiet!

The vinyl is visually stunning and has been so well cared for over the last 49 years.  It has only very minimal spindle wear and has clearly only been played a handful of times which has helped maintain its original sonic quality.  There is still a little vinyl 'flecking' around the spindle hole.  A stunning FINAL UPGRADE archive pressing of that I have no doubt.

For a relatively flimsy 'one-piece' cover it is definitely one of the better ones you will find with only a little shelf wear.  The original inner sleeve is in great condition

Visual grading

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has an immaculate glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Based on the audio and the minimal spindle wear this is a vinyl that has only been lightly played and lovingly cared for!  With only some very faint sleeve removal hairlines it really does gleam!  The run out grooves are super clean and the original EMI labels are unmarked with very little wear spindle wear as stated.  A superb example!
Play grading

The intro on 'Keep Yourself Alive' can only be described 'as new' such is the clarity on offer here and I also noticed just how strong and deep the audio is, a clear sign the vinyl has hardly been played I would say.  Freddie's first vocal is just as impressive and it continues to play with a sonic clarity that is second to none.  The percussive instrumental is faultless and the final vocal including Roger's again has NO 'background' at all.  The fade out has not even a single dust tick and this is unequivocally a Mint start to the album.

The quiet piano intro on 'Doing All Right' is so clean with only a couple of barely audible dust ticks and the opening vocal is just STUNNING.  So clear you can easily hear the 'echo' affect on it - I cannot tell you just how unbelievable the playback is!  As Roger comes there is no let up in quality and soon after the very quiet 'Should be waiting for the sun...' verse is nigh on perfect with only a couple of very minor ticks that do not intrude on the actual 'listen'.  The double bass section is indeed perfect and that also applies to the first 'high octane' section which has no distortion.  The next quiet passage/vocal plays with sublime clarity and the final 'heavy' section plays like it has never been played before.  The final quiet section is flawless and I have no hesitation in grading this as Mint- and it is up there with the best versions I have ever heard.  A number of quiet sections and yet the clarity is outstanding!

Brian's intro on 'Great King Rat' plays with incredible depth and power and the opening vocal is of the same 'high end' standard.  It continues to play with a definition that you so rarely find and 'as new' can again be used.  The sonic quality through every vocal and instrumental section could not be enhanced in any way and a prime example of that is during the 'Now listen all you people...' vocal.  It plays with tremendous power and the following quiet acoustic section is 'crystal clear' with not one dust tick.  Brian's extended solo has to be heard to be believed!  The power and range is unbelievable!  I know I can get a little over-enthusiastic with top level audio but I know I can be forgiven here!  I just cannot put into words just how Mint the audio is here!  You will not be surprised to hear that Roger's percussive ending plays to perfection with no 'background'.  So yes this is Mint every day of the week!  Blast it loud with the lights off!!

I am pleased to say the classic 'My Fairy King' plays to the impeccable standard with no interference.  From the intro, including Roger's vocal 'scream', through every section the audio could not play with any greater clarity or definition.  The audio resonates so clearly around the room with literally no intrusion on the audio.  The quiet mid piano/vocal section provides another STUNNING example of the clarity that is prevalent throughout the entire side.  As the audio builds the playback is breathtaking - the 'sound' just envelops the room and again there is just no distortion.  The quiet finale has no 'background' not even on the final extended note.  This truly is audio of the highest calibre (you have probably sensed that already!) and Mint is again the only grade I can give.  All four tracks on this side quite simply play 'as new' and it's not often you can say for a 3U/3U first press!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The percussive intro on 'Liar' plays with perfect precision and this quality is still there as Brian joins in.  A long intro that is faultless.  Freddie's opening vocal is equally as good as is the first chorus.  It proceeds in the same exact way and again what you notice is the sheer clarity of sound - each note is so clean and precise and there is just no 'background' getting in the way of this phenomenal audio.  Put simply there is no interference and rarely do you find such quality on a genuine first press.  The 'All day long...' section could not play any better and Brian's work on the next section is mind-blowing!  The classic 'choral' section that follows more than keeps up this exemplary standard and to the final note it plays with exceptional quality.  This is MINT in every sense of the word.

The 'acoustic' intro 'The Night Comes Down' plays with sublime clarity and again there are no dust ticks, ticks, clicks, pops or static.  The opening vocal is just as 'clean' and it continues to play with a quality that belies its near 50 years of age.  More of a straight off the 'press' sound!  I have no wish to be repetitive but this classic track plays with a sonic quality that just cannot be faulted.  A real rarity as it so often has some 'background' but not here!  The 'proggy' end section is a prime example of that.  Stunning.  This is another Mint track you will not be surprised to hear.

'Modern Times Rock 'N' Roll' plays with exceptional power and depth from the first note to the last with...with no interference.  I'll keep it brief.  This is Mint with No interference and NO distortion.

'Son And Daughter' plays with great power and resonance from the very first note to the last.  This track never plays with the same level of clarity as compared to the other tracks but this is without doubt one of the 'cleanest' you will find today.  There is no interference and Mint- is still a true representation of the music.  Very clean audio and just again the fade out is amazingly good!

There is just one mega light tick on the 'Jesus' intro (the first on the album!) but you could easily miss it.  The opening vocal section plays with genuine quality and for once has none of the distortion that you regularly find on the first/early pressings.  The 'high octane' middle section provides another example of that.  It is so powerful and the depth of the audio is unrivalled.  Perhaps never played it is that good.  The final vocal does not disappoint either and you just could wish to find a more 'complete' version.  Mint-

The instrumental 'Seven Seas Of Rhye...' ends this 'as new' album with stunning clarity once more.  From the piano intro to the long fade out the playback is so strong and Mint- is very much deserved.  What an album!

In summary this first pressing plays to a FANTASTIC standard so rarely found today.  The sonic quality is just on another level and I am confident in saying this plays 'as new' from start to finish with no interference.  Just one barely audible tick!  This is easily a FINAL UPGRADE time-warp classic and it very probably the finest 3U/3U pressing that I have ever had the pleasure in listening to.  The most 'complete' version for sure, audio does not get any better than this!  The production values on this album are so good and on such a clean vinyl that clarity and depth of sound really stands out.  Impressive when you consider it was their debut album - I guess the powers that be realised that Queen were here to stay...!

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The record may have been well produced but the cover wasn't!  However, in saying that this one is very clean overall and has been quite well preserved down the years and is better than the vast majority you see today.  The top edge has barely any rubbing and the bottom edge only a minimal amount.  The thin pinched spine is in excellent shape with only minor wear on the corners and a small raised 'rub' in the centre.  The right hand corners and the opening edge have only very minimal wear.  The front cover is very clean with no marking, just some faint ringwear, a minor crease near the bottom left corner and some of the usual faint creases around the edges.  The back cover is in great order with only minimal wear visible on the corners.  An excellent example overall.

Perhaps no surprise - the original plain white inner is in superb condition with no side splits or tears, no marking and barely any creasing.
